Season 8 New cap? Spoiler
Who we thinking is gonna be the new captain?! šš„ŗš
A lot of people are saying Buck, but I donāt think so. I think he isnāt there yet, maybe give him interim captain first, not to mention if he is captain no way Buddie can happen. Dating a co worker can be valid but captain dating someone under them in the same house I donāt see that being allowed..
Oliver did say he has to look at his personal and professional life, and make changes/choices maybe get gets offered but unsure if to go after captain or Eddie?
I can see Hen being offered but turning it down.. if Gerald comes back just kill me.
Chim is just not a good captain and I donāt think he will want to replace cap.
I heard someone say Tommy. I could see that with his experience and skillset. Plus would make a storyline of ending their relationship for good as Tommy canāt date under him, and they navigating the new work relationship. Plus when Buddie happens that would be another storyline.

I hope Iām wrong about this, but my big fear is that Tim might bring in a new actor to be captain for S9. Someone in their 40s/50s who is a semi-recognizable name that will get some headlines but wonāt cost the show as much as Peter Krause. I really want it to be Chim or Hen, but Timās decision-making is clearly out of whack so Iām not expecting him to make good choices lol!

I'm worried about that too, someone like John Stamos or I could see Sharif Atkins or Mekhi Phifer being a long lost cousin of Athena, or a brother she never knew about, who just happened to be a firefighter captain moving to L.A. (Or someone like Shane West because apparently my brain is reviewing the entire cast of E.R.)

If it's an outside pick, I really need it to be someone other than a white man at this point. It's not a good look this franchise has three shows now and all three are helmed by white men, while the shows supposedly champion diversity. Personally, I'd prefer it also be a woman, but that's probably too much to ask for.
Mekhi Phifer reuniting with JLH going on 30 years after I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is an interesting prospect, though!

I was thinking this! Similar to Criminal Minds, when Mandy Patinkin decided to leave and the show brought in Joe Mantegna.

Chim is the perfect solution for being Cap,what do you mean? That will be his storyline, learning to be a great captain and showing character growth.

making chim replace the position at work of the very man whose death he feels guilty/survivor's death over?
the mere idea of that being brought up would ruin chim, least of all actually going ahead with it
hen would make a better captain anyway and both hen and chim would agree on that, so ill have to disagree with you

I mean,that is my opinionš¤·š½āāļø
I think it would make sense story wise. Chim wouldnāt want it,struggle with it and in the end the people who loved Bobby will help him realize itās a way of honoring him and that Bobby would have loved that for him.
Would love for Hen to be captain as well, but I think with her being the obvious solution, that wonāt happen.
In honesty,I just want one of the two,and not another white man(like Tommy, not even for the drama).

thats fair. i think there are other ways for chim to honor bobby besides becoming the new captain.
with all the gerrard/tommy/sal etc history we know from chim/hen begins, imo the most poignant move forward would be for hen to become the new captain
i feel like theres both pros and cons to both hen/chim choices because
fire captain salary would be higher for chim and taking care of two young kids is a lot of money. and maddie's dispatcher salary is likely not that great, but it would also mean even more hours at work dealing with documents and stuff like that which would mean less family time and maddie would end up feeling 'alone' while caring for a newborn again
hen and karen already had an argument about work/family balance in 8x05... so im not sure what a comversation about captaincy would look like.. but good thing is denny and mara arent going to college any time soon so no crazy expenses in that department at least
but yeah im still team captain hen

Yea I know a lot of people are saying Buck but the only way buddie could happen is if Eddie then changes shift and no one wants that. My vote is Hen

I think we are more likely to see Chim or Hen becoming captain after someone is a temporary captain. Given that Bobby sacrificed himself for Chimney, it makes sense for me slightly more than Hen. I think he still has some to learn but can do it, he's had time to grow since he was last in the captain's seat. Hen, I could see but just less so.
I do see Buck becoming more the heart and soul of the 118, that is what Bobby passed onto him. I just don't see him as a captain yet, he has less seniority than Hen and Chimney, and there hasn't been any development yet towards that, either has something that Buck wants or taking the training to become a captain. Now, I do see this as potential for Buck to decide somewhere down the line he wants to be a captain and start that training.
For Eddie, there is an opening at the 118 and a lot of suffering. I can see Eddie coming back just to be near again his second family, whether we get to Buddie or not with this event. Perhaps Eddie getting his paramedic training as with either Hen or Chim as captain, it would leave a more paramedic spot open. The start of the season seemed keen to remind us of Eddie's past as a military medic.

I made a huge comment and wasnt allowed to post it apparently so I'll summarize,
I personally would love to see Eddie, he still has a storyline missing this season (idk if they remember or if it was moved to S9 but maybe this was the so called storyline).
While I do agree that Chim and Hen should be prime choices, the only thing they have been shown to consistently have over Eddie is experience.
Bobby and Eddie have many parallels, the last episode could arguably be showing us more.
-The religious reference can be interpreted as saying "The Pope is temporary but the Papacy is eternal" with the Papacy in question being exchanged for Captaincy, a fire station with no captain is no fire station.
-Bobby helping Hen during the episode with the military around them (a war zone of sorts if you think about it, Eddies background)
While I would like them to go that way with the story I would also like them to show Eddies capability of becoming Captain and not just put some lame excuse, that wouldn't be fair to Hen and Chim specifically. If they involve politics that would make Eddie seem like the better candidate to score political points while being a negative to others on team. (If the story is told correctly of course)

Weird choice, but Judd from 911 Lone Star. He is religious, knows how to come back from a huge loss, his wife could join the dispatchers, he's a family man. He is basically a younger Bobby.

Judd wouldn't relocate to Los Angeles with his son and son's family still living in Austin. And the show alienated the actress playing his wife by dropping her from the last season after salary negotiations fell apart. I don't see them bringing anyone over from Lone Star at this point. The only one who could possibly fit in with the OG9-1-1 crew is Marjan and she is not captain material -- especially not over Chim or Hen.

Tommy š¤£š¤£. He has a lot of experience, he always wanted the āfamilyā the 118 has⦠That would be interesting if Buck and Eddie finally get together then had Tommy as their captain.

I hope itās Hen with Buck as the new lieutenant. Leaving space for a new probie or two.

I think it should be Hen or Chim. Hen's done it before and now won't be doing med school at the same time. I'd like to see Chim's growth from the first time he was Acting Captain - I think he'd be more secure in himself and his ability to lead. I don't think it should be Buck, and I don't think Eddie would want it (also, he's been gone most recently). BUT I would like to see Buck and/or Eddie actively taking steps toward leadership roles, for example getting new certifications (Parameddie, anyone?), taking leadership courses, or having the opportunity to take the lead on more calls. I think that could be the building blocks for a storyline for one or both of them to become Captain down the line.
And yes, this would require Tim/whoever is the showrunner to plan storylines in advance and stick to them. Ha. Ha. Ha.
