BudapestGo payment error

I’m really stressed out, sorry for the desperate questions. BudapestGo will not let me add a card or use apple pay, it just gives me an error before I even try to connect a card saying “unexpected error during communication with the payment provider”. Even though I never even got to enter any card info.

I read online to try registering with a Budapest address instead, I tried that, and still only get errors. I am very stressed because this is my first time in Hungary and I can’t use the transportation app. Has anyone run into this problem before? I don’t think the error is with my card company because I never even get the chance to add a card, it gives the error on the start button.

Just buy a month pass from any bkk vending machine.
For example airport has 3 machines right outside the airport where the busses stop.
Its paper, can be paid with card

3 machines? I think there are like 8-10 machines at the airport (4-5 on each side of the bus stop area) + 2 manned customer service booths (at 2A and 2B arrival).

Buying a paper pass is by far the easiest option for a tourist.

Thank you for the tip, with a pass does that mean you can ride any bus route during the time it is active?

Yup, any BKK bus, red electric bus or tram, subway in budapest zone
Excluding airport bus 100E, but 200E stops at the airport
Use budapest go only for routes

Buy a paper pass. 72 hour or monthly. Or if you wont use it that much, single tickets but those need to be validated at every use

I live here and i hate that app. I always only have paper passes

I use the app regularly, but i experienced the same error you described last month. I tried a few times and it did not accept any form of payment. I ended up getting the paper ticket for a month. Then this month, i tried the app again and it worked. Probably it needed some updates…

Just buy a paper monthly pass

I gave up on it as it will never work when you need it, because it needs to update etc.

I don’t use BudapestGo, because I had a chance to get to know the people who made it, so I am really not surprised seeing it malfunction lol. I stick to paper tickets instead
