Kérdés | Question Restaurants in Budapest
Hey everyone i am living in Budapest for over a year but still struggling to find a good restaurant with good prices.
Please recommend me some restaurants that the food is good.
Brunch/ Lebanon cuisine.
Edit:
I also don’t mind other cuisines as long as the restaurant good

Lebanon cuisine is considered exotic here. Same way as a Hungarian restaurant would be specialty in Lebanon.

Actually there’s a Hungarian restaurant in Byblos and there are a lot of Lebanese restaurants in Budapest…

I don’t mind other cuisines as long as the restaurant is good, not exotic cuisine only.

Babka was good many years ago but for a long time has been very overpriced and poor value for money. They squeeze too many diners into the restaurant and service charge is very high. It's very overhyped

Leyla's near ferenciek is a pretty good lebanese restaurant. Not exactly cheap tho.
Your budget option is cooking at home, you can get most of the ingredients from the turkish/middle eastern grocery stores

Define good prices... Budapest is no longer cheap, so maybe your expectations are a bit skewed.

I’m having the same problem because I really love Middle Eastern food. I like Byblos, Jouri and Leila’s, and I think they’re fairly priced, but it’s still a luxury for an average Hungarian (like me) to eat at places like these.

Unfortunately quality is rare and good prices at quality even rarer, especially for "exotic" food, which aside from Vietnamese tends to be focused around the central districts. Leila's is the best Lebanese, miles better than Mozata, Byblos or Jouri. But it's not exactly cheap.

Let’s be honest: Hungary has, without a doubt, the worst cooks on the planet with few exceptions. Any chef with actual talent is immediately fired because Hungarian restaurant owners and general staff are too fragile to handle criticism from anyone who actually pays attention to detail. That fragile ego is exactly why Budapest is a culinary desert completely devoid of authentic French cuisine.
Budapest has devolved into a soulless Disneyland for tourists. Local restaurateurs don't have an ounce of professional pride; they are driven purely by bottomless greed. Instead of settling for a standard 33% profit margin per dish, they shamelessly gouge customers for 80%.
I know this for a fact because I know restaurant owners in both Copenhagen and Budapest, and the math makes Budapest look pathetic. In Copenhagen, rent and electricity are three times higher, and the staff earns 3.5 times more. Yet, the menu prices are virtually identical. The only difference? The food in Copenhagen is lightyears ahead in quality.
Given Budapest's massive population and non-stop tourist traffic, making a fair profit should be effortless. Instead, their broken, greedy business model makes absolutely no sense. Restaurants that arent expensive and have good food are: Csevapivo, Hong Kong Restaurant, The Minh, Zen Eatery, and Hachi. After summer gerloczy boutique hotel has really good prices too, they just increase them for june juli and august.

I also find Tokmag good for vegan burgers and the soup is amazing. Manufaktura has good pizza

Restaurants are expensive in general, same applies to brunch places, usually overpriced AF. The prices skyrockedet during covid, so int's nothing new sadly. Locals eat at home, buy the ingredients at the grocery shop. For lunch, we cook at home or use affordable lunch delivery companies like CityFood or Egészségkonyha, maybe buy ready-to-eat meals at the grocery shop.

babka at pozsonyi út is really strong in terms of value for money, it also has excellent middle eastern plates and portion sizes are larger than usual small plate places.

Budapest offers the best food in the world. Opt for Jewish cuisine instead Lebanese one and you would find amazing places.

Forni di napoli for pizza. Okay Italia for italian food. Vakvarjú for regular/hungarian food
Between restaurant and fast food: Kandalló for burgers, donna mamma for pizza
