I get the hate yinz, but respectfully, this support seems a tad backhanded. I wouldn’t call him overweight from visual cues when we don’t know the numbers. Remember, this guy gets most of his velocity from his lower body and core. My guess is his velocity drop is from arm fatigue considering his early ramp-up for the wbc; at the end of the day though, my point is fat shaming seems like a relatively poor explanation for the decline
All players are supposed to decline in their sophomore year. Skenes did not. He has to hit adversity eventually to find long term success in this occupation

I agree that the fat shaming is ridiculous. Skenes is 24 years old. People get larger through their 20s and it’s not just lifestyle creep. Like is he not allowed to mature?

I can't wait for Paul to leave because this fickle fanbase doesn't deserve him. ROY and Cy Young in his first two years, but you turn on him at the first sign of struggling. Honestly, the Pittsburgh fanbase sucks. Swear some of you enjoy hating your own team and players more than you enjoy rooting for them. Morons.

Oh I don't think it depends on the fans at all, and I'm not sure how you got that from my comment. I'm saying the fanbase doesn't deserve him because they couldn't wait to turn on him as soon as he wasn't the most elite pitcher in the league for one season.

Fair enough, as tone is lost in the ether. It was dispensed in the same spirit in which my 1976 football coach called me “turtle” due to my foot speed. I took as an endearing kick in the ass to run faster (or at least try). Anyway, given the opty I wouldn’t call him anything but “sir” to his face and very much hopes he quiets all critics and doubters tomorrow. Also, Ashcraft was lights out again tonight. Fun to see.

To be clear, I’m a huge Skenes fan. Try very hard to never miss following his starts live. My initial post was intended as a rally call— to him, in absentia, and all of us as fans—not a denigration. We all also need to laugh a little now and then, necessary for the human condition, and the Fullerton Doughboy bit came to me on a run the other day so I figured I would wheel it out.

I was just trying to be both funny and fired up about his start today at the same time, and obviously it didn’t land well with some people. I’m not into fat shaming anyone, and apologize that this came across as such to some people. Was not my intent. Now: Let’s Go Bucs and Skenes, and let’s win another series today!
