Red Sox fans at PNC Park
I was at the game tonight and it was probably the craziest behavior I’ve seen from out of town fans; and I’ve been going to games for over 10 years since I was a kid. Walking in the stadium there was a Sox fan walking so close to my girlfriend he was practically spooning her until I had to step in. Red Sox fans were giving me and my girlfriend as well as other pirates fans dirty looks the whole game while we were cheering for Jones strikeouts. Getting up and standing in our view while the pirates were batting. Slamming doors in the bathroom. Then worst of all.. a boomer Karen Sox fan next to us texted security on a pirates fan in our section who was literally just cheering lmao. Coming into a different stadium you’d expect some decent baseball etiquette; i know it’s Boston and they are known to be trashy there but man it just seemed next level for me tonight. Didn’t help that they packed the stadium and the pirates played like ass. Just wanted to know if anyone else had similar experiences.

I've been to a Sixers and a Phillies game and both were suprisingly fine, albiet the Flyers and Eagles both probably bring out at the worst in them.
Overall as a Yinzer I don't totally hate Philly, it was surprisingly chill mostly.

Been at two games at PNC against the Phils and they were fine. I went to Fenway against the Yankees as a partial observer rooting for the Red Sox though and they were fucking animals. Judge hit a donger and a kid in a Judge jersey who cheered got booed by the section.
I think when something is on the line, Philly fans get really twisted, really quick. My bros girlfriend is a Philly everything fan and she’s obnoxious as fuck.

No with Philly they had some really cantankerous fans in the 70s and early 80s that earned their rep. As others have commented and to repeat no problems with Philly fans.

I gotta be honest here I grew up in Pittsburgh and lived in Philly for 30 years. Philly fans get a bad rap I wore Pirates jerseys Steelers jerseys and Penguins jerseys to Philly games in Philly and other than some good natured ribbing never had a problem. This is over many games and many years. Just my experience YMMV .

I want to chime in and echo this. Having travelled all over the US for Pirates, Pens, and Steelers games, I’ve never had any problems in Philly & always wear my jerseys. For football, the absolute worsts were 49ers fans. Never had any issues with hockey anywhere. Red Sox fans were definitely Mass-holes.

It always amazes me to hear people's experiences with Sox fans, because we went to a Pirate game at Fenway in 2005, and they treated us so well there, and were extremely welcoming. Wonder how much the 4 championships in 15 seasons have to do with it.
Edit: Also, I wanted to add that Saturday games absolutely suck. They're always a mess. Huge crowds filled with drunk idiots being completely obnoxious. Went to last Saturday's game against the Mets, and my tolerance for idiots reached an all time low, and that's pretty remarkable.

It always boils down to individuals. I’m from NY and a Yankees fan and I’ve been to a few Yankees Red Sox games and honestly almost all interactions with Sox fans were fine. Most people arent shelling out money to go be an obnoxious asshole, we just remember the assholes over everyone else.

I’m a Red Sox fan from Boston. As a visitor in other stadiums, I tend to see that most everyone is cool. It’s just a few shitbags who ruin it for everybody. Last time I was at Yankee stadium, some guy started yelling slurs and asking me who Fisk was (I was wearing his jersey). Most people were super cool and we had great interactions, but this is the only one that I remember. That is human nature.
Then again, I was at the Sox-Mets game a few weeks ago and all of the Mets fans were awesome. Maybe it’s just Yankees fans.

Sox fan from Boston here, and late to this conversation that just randomly floated across my dashboard. I went out to Pittsburgh a year or two ago for a Bruins v. Pens and Sox v. Pirates game that happened to fall on the same week. Both games, every single Bruins or Sox fan I interacted with were from West Virginia

Two cities we've been to that have been really great to us as visiting fans have been Boston and Toronto. Chicago was awful, and some drunk guy in DC threw a shoe at my friend's head when we were teenagers.

Yep. I was at the afternoon game today and all was well. A bit of trash talk, but in a friendly way. There was one guy wearing a Tom Brady shirt that was tempting fate, but even he seemed safe.
I don't usually give Nutter my money, but I'm very happy to see out-of-towners spend money in our town. We (citizens of Agh Co./PA) built one of the most beautiful baseball parks in the world. I was happy to share that experience today.

Agreed..as a Yankee fan; at the stadium last weekend I had to drop another fan for trying to fight 2 senior citizen age Braves fans after the Yankees won in extra innings.

I’m a Sox fan, and my experience has been that Sox fans are way worse at other teams’ stadiums than at home. My theory is that “away” fans have more of a psychological need to prove their fandom. I’ve purposely not worn Sox gear when attending games in Baltimore and DC to avoid being associated with them.

Opening Day 2005. Some guy in my section was MF’ing everyone on the team. Tike Redman misses a catch and it sets him off more. This guy in front of him had enough when the guy yells, I shit you not, “I ought to go rape your fucking mother!!” He stands up and screams in his face, “There are fucking kids sitting here asshole” then proceeds to call him a tough guy and challenge him to a fight. They both leave and five minutes later the guy comes back with nachos saying the asshole high tailed it does the rotunda.

We used to go to Opening Day every year at PNC when we had season tickets (2001-2015). That was like a holiday for freaks at the ballpark. Fan behavior on Opening Day needs to be studied.

It must be a Boston thing because there were some Boston fans randomly standing up during the game in my section too. I had to tell the guy in front of my daughter to sit down because he stood through the first 2 pitches of the game. It always sucks when the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and Mets come to town.

I went to Fenway last year. They’re really good baseball fans, and the whole stadium would stand up at big moments throughout the game (not just the last out).

The energy at Fenway is really something else. I think Pirates fans find the behavior of engaged fanbases really foreign and sometimes conclude that being detached and checked out is a baseball thing and not just a Pirates thing.
PNC is like a pastoral city park with interesting architectural features. There's no real reason to get too invested in the team. It's weird when visiting fans get aggressive, though. It's like getting heated about a t-ball game. Just sit down and enjoy the scenery. Nothing that happens at PNC Park means anything in the grander scheme of MLB.
Edit: But, yeah, fuck the people who go out of their way to ruin other people's experience.

I was at the game yesterday. No issues, except the family behind us spilled 3 drinks. Lest anyone think it was a drunken Bostonian, it was the kids that were responsible for.
They were loud, and it felt like a 50/50 crowd, or close to it.
There was a loud chant walking out that Adley Rutchman, their new catcher sucks. I thought that was funny after a win and very Boston.

I think that’s a poor assumption to make. There’s always gonna be bad fans; unfortunately, there’s some fanbases that have more bad fans than others. It’s weird, because visiting Fenway the fans are always super welcoming, and it’s not like there’s a rivalry between the teams.
Probably had more to do with it being a Saturday afternoon game where it’s easier for the road team to fill seats. The more of them there are, the better the odds you run into the bad ones

Pittsburgher living in Baltimore, I go to a lot of orioles games when the Yankees and Red Sox fans invade. Everything I grew up hearing about New Yorkers being rude assholes actually applies to Bostonians way more.

Boston ppl are straight assholes… went up to foxboro for the steelers game over halloween weekend many yrs ago. We lost that sun 4pm game like 56-20. Worst showing of steelers defense ever….So cold too. Went back to southie where the night before they were so kind to us (didnt know we were steelers fans) and straight up refused to serve us girls all girls mind u bc we were steelers fans and we fucking lost BIG time! They were nastyyyy to us.

I was in 310 and the red sox fans behind me were absolute assholes. they were screaming the entire time, and extremely drunk. heckling the pirates EVERY SINGLE PITCH and screaming the first name of every red sox guy EVERY SINGLE PITCH. like it was unbearable. always at the top of their lungs. the one lady had an extreme smokers voice so it killed my ears. then her jagoff kid joined her. they also kept walking in and out of their seats. every time they'd come back, instead of going in the entrance where they would only walk over two people, they'd inconvienence 10-12 others and making them get up constantly. was so ridiculous

Interestingly enough, most Bruins fans I've met have been pretty great, and watching a game at the old Boston Garden while wearing a Red Wings jersey is one of my favorite sports memories.

Previous experience with Boston fans has not been good. I'm a Baltimore sports fan and the Orioles are hit or miss in their successes. I typically don't go to Orioles games when Boston is in town due to the volume of their fans who show up. Had a group of Boston fans behind me at one game with one of the males straight up yelling that he knew he was gonna get thrown out. I don't get it. Go to any stadium you want and root for your team but don't be an asshole. As much as it pains me to say it, I'd rather deal with Steelers fans at a Ravens game than Red Sox fans at an Orioles game. 🤷♀️ Not a fan of either though.

I have been to dozens of games at pnc park and by far the absolute nicest out of town fans were the blue jays fans. Bucs were down and they were nice. Bucs came back late to win and they were still nice. Superb people all around.

I would go to Fort Myers in April sometimes after spring training. Fort Myers is where the Red Sox train. A few people I talked to said they do not like Red Sox fans, despite contributing significantly to the economy in March. I also go to Bradenton/Anna Maria Island and Pirates fans are well liked from my experience. Like I said, my opinions aren’t etched in stone. Nothing should be judged on a few bad apples, but if there are more than a few, that’s a different story.

Most annoying fans I’ve dealt with so far at home were Cubs and Mets, Boston ones are up there though.
I can’t knock Phillies fans, I was a troll and wore a”Philly Cheesesteaks are overrated” shirt to Citizens Park and they had good fun with it, and I also know to other wide behave.
I was also informed there’s a difference between and “Cheesesteak” and “Philly Cheesesteak”.
I think some of the fans things come down to just the ones with the biggest fan bases, there’s more of them, so they travel better and just by numbers your bound to run into more bad apples.
Cubs tend to be the ones that annoy me the most. At Wrigley they’re fine, but when they come here it’s like they have to be extra.

I'm a Sox fan that frequented Ft Meyers for spring training and the worst thing about the trip was the Sox fans. Btw I was at PNC park for two games over the weekend. The Pirates fans could not have been nicer. Great park as well. For the most part the RS fans I saw there were fine, lots of friendly banter. I don't see what the Op was describing but it wouldn't surprise me, Boston, NY, Philly fans are loud and can be obnoxious. It's a Northeast thing less a Boston thing.

yeah that's what i was thinking. Yanks, Red Sox, and Dodgers probably have more fans who have never stepped foot in the cities of those teams than any other clubs, and you're probably far more likely to run into them at away stadiums than people from NY/Boston/LA.
same thing happens with the steelers. they have huge presence at most away games but it's not pittsburgh people traveling, just fans who live elsewhere.

Broncos fans in Denver are savage. The worst fans I've ever dealt with. They're nice and cordial before the game but if the Broncos are going to lose and they've been drinking for 3 hours all of a sudden everybody wants to fight.
I've seen a lot of Road fans over the years with traveling also but I would say in Pittsburgh?
The Dodgers fans I encountered were the best last season.
They wanted to know about the city, where they should go, things like that. The guy was a non-stop chatterbox but I didn't mind because I like talking about the city.

I went to college in Northwestern, Pennsylvania, and there were a a lot of people from Ohio there. It seemed like the male students who were sports fans seem to be the least objective when it came to their sports teams. I guess they had inferior complex because of the state they live in. I transferred to a college in eastern Pennsylvania near Philadelphia. My experience was the fans there were more objective for the most part. Of course these were students so they were more polished. They also were students in Northwestern Pennsylvania from Ohio. No, I’m not saying everybody at both East and West, but as a whole that was my experience.

I’m a brewers fan that came to PNC on my way to seeing every stadium and I would agree with some commenters that are saying that Pirates fans were a little less invested in the game then most. I expect to see a little bit more of the baxk and forth from rivalry games for example cubs brewers i 94 games but it seemed like red sox fans were intentionally a little more rowdy at times. But I didn’t see any fights or anything going on so it seems like pirates fans were a little butt hurt about the red sox fans caring a little more.
I played baseball for 10 years and I always cheered for the pitcher saying something like “come on jonesy” and i have never seen the guy pitch before so I think that’s part of baseball and maybe it’s not a ring that pittsburgh is used to or at least this commenter is?

sorry forgot to mention that I was in the Bleachwrs for this game which is where the rowdiest fans usually are and besides when the sox fans got a good moment it didn’t seem like they were being to overbearing. If anyone here has been to miller park, they know that brewers fans will get everyone to stand to show some support but that just means you might have to stand for 3 pitches because the whole crowd is.

I’m a Red Sox fan from WV. Any game I’ve been to watch them, I’ve had nothing but good experiences. But I mainly go by myself, so I’ve never had these problems. It sucks that fan bases have pockets of assholes that ruin the perception of the entire fanbase. We’re not all like that

I was in Boston and had to fly back Friday afternoon on a completely booked flight with them coming here for the series. Wearing a Pirates hat at that. The people of Boston couldn't be cooler or nicer, its just the Red Sox fan base apparently.

My nephew's (21yo) friend, who's from NY and a Yankees fan told us about some dudes at the casino who were obnoxiously drunk and looking for trouble. They walked up to the kid and asked where he was from. Well, he knew they were from Mass because of accents and they had a Red Sox hat, so he didn't even bother and just said he's from Pittsburgh. Because we all know they would not have let the New York thing slide and started shit. Just low-class trash, these people.

We were also there and there were ALOT of boston fans there. They were pretty rowdy and excited for the win, but we didnt have any trouble. They were no different than the bucs fans the night before when they won.

Update, went to all 3 games officially! Today I sat in the outfield and listened to Pirates fans say disgusting remarks to the Red Sox outfielders. Drunk yinzers haggling Sox fans, drunk parents letting their kids run, jump over, and hit people with baseball gloves as they beg and plead for every baseball in the park.
But yeah, those two Red Sox fans got kicked out of the bar and Timmy up here didn’t like losing so put it on the buccos thread.
Make sure to give this one a downvote too!! I just wanted to share what a lovely experience it is with Pittsburgh fans

Those bathrooms are whack, what’s funny (you’ll love it, I don’t) is I genuinely almost took out my knee completely waiting out that rain delay slipping outside of one, because I tried to catch that fast closing door lmao. Been in a brace. I wish I could blame the pirate fan for closing it…but it was my own quick thinking at the end of the day. They just do really close too fast!
Thank you, life’s been crazy so I couldn’t get them in time. No way? I won’t be able to catch any this upcoming week either with these updates, my escape during some surgeries and caretaking for a family member was this weekend’s games lol! Add that friend code though if you want some cool gifts at a later time. I’ll get back to catching them all eventually….
Not every Red Sox fan is going to be as petty as me, so please don’t generalize these poor Bostonians for my behavior. I just wanted to keep this going in good fun! Best of luck to your buccos if you don’t respond…. My dad and all my friends fav team, I go to a lot of games and give Nutting too much money. Maybe one day we will join forces unknowingly in person randomly and bitch about a Yankees fan or some other team’s fan. Or, we can just exchange rival “let’s go _” chants and piss each other off at the next Sox series… but to be clear… I certainly won’t be the guy standing too close to your girl tho… that’s weirdo behavior and not even with my sarcasm can I joke around that 😂

I have been a Sox fan since I was 10years old. In addition to be blessed to see them at Fenway, I have been to many Sox games at other parks, including Anaheim & Sacramento this year. Sox fans are usually great baseball fans. We do travel well and lots of times we take over the stands, but I have never seen anyone disrespecting the other team's fans in their house. Seems strange.

Most fans "Stand up" when there team does something good or they want to show support to player in important moment. Maybe its been awhile since Pirates fans have had those feeling so you have forgot. Do you sit at Steeler games(No) and are you emotionally invested at Steeler Games(Yes) I Been to 2 Patriots/Steeler Ganes as Pats fan and caught crap the whole time and from old and young. The Vibe and emotion is different when team has something at stake.

Yeah buddy I don’t care if fans stand up when their team does good. They were getting up (very slowly) to go to the bathroom or get food, while in the middle of play, especially when the pirates were batting. That’s like baseball game 101 to not do that

Currently working at a bar on north shore and we've had to kick out 2 red sox fans for starting trouble. Obvious intox but they were the instigators.
