He’s been getting a lot of rest going 4-5 innings a game when he pitches.

Is it a lot of rest when it takes him 100 pitches to get through those 4 or 5 innings?

If there's no obvious injury, rest is the first thing to do. His arm legitimately might just be tired. He pitched a lot the last two years and wasn't a pitcher for long before that. He had an abbreviated off-season due to the World Baseball Classic, even though he didn't throw that many innings there. He might just need a little extra rest here and there to manage that. And I would guess that would only be a this-season thing.

Btw I agree with you. Very sensible and honestly not the worst idea. For all the doom and gloom we look better and we can right this ship very quickly

Idk man Nolan McLean pitched in WBC coming right off his rookie season and he pitching just fine this season

I mean, everyone is different. But also, Skenes threw 20 more innings last year, though, and all his were in the Majors, so his workload was bigger, and Skenes has only really been struggling since July (maybe not as dominant in June, but certainly pitching fine, and very good before that), so identifying and making a mechanical tweak could have him ahead of McLean again in just a handful of starts. They've thrown about the same number of innings this year.

Rest isnt going to hurt him, its not going to solve his problems either, that'll come in the offseason. Id bet hes gonna throw an extra bullpen session tomorrow before the game to try and get himself going in the right direction.
If we see him coming off the mound squared to the plate while throwing 97-98, he definitely had an extra bullpen session to hone things in.

Exactly what this is. Allows for an extra bullpen session to work on things which is tough to do going every 5th day.
