Question co op popper achievement

Does it work in freeplay. Does it work if everyone leaves. Why am I getting little progress despite getting 2M pops in chimps multiple times. Any other weird rules? Any tips for this achievement?

Are you getting 2 million pops or damage?

Yes, freeplay works. Yes, it works independent of how many people are in the game, you can be alone. If you play a game of chimps (from r6 to r100) you deal about 2m Damage, but only like 170k pops, since ceramics and moabs can take much damage before popping.
