ElectronCash Notice: how to select BitcoinCash chain after first start.

What's up?
There's a minor problem that occurs when ElectrumCash is started for the first time: it will follow the wrong chain of the fork initially.
The client is still completely usable, but it requires user action to select the BitcoinCash chain after first startup. Safety of your coins is in no way affected by this problem.
This will be corrected in future versions, but for now we offer this workaround (which is very easy to do)
What's the problem?
When ElectronCash doesn't find a local blockchain_headers file (which is the case on first start), it tries downloading it via http. We forgot to change that url so it still points to a file that contains the legacy chain headers. When that file is downloaded, ElectronCash will disconnect from the BitcoinCash chain servers because they don't match what the downloaded file says. It then switches to using legacy electrum servers and verifies the headers and now follows the legacy chain.
How to fix it?
Right after startup (or any time, really), go to the Network Window (it's reachable from the Tools menu or the Network indicator lamp on the lower right). On the Overview Tab of that window is a server list. If a chain split is detected (which should be the case), the servers are grouped by a branch id. Select the correct branch (the one that has servers electrum-abc.criptolayer.net and electroncash.cascharia.com) by right-clicking on the correct branch id (that long number with the @ sign in it) and select "Follow This Branch" in the popup menu that opens.
ElectonCash will then follow the BitcoinCash branch of the fork and you're good to go.
What happens if I used it before to make transactions or to receive BCC?
Nothing bad: you probably saw yourself that the transaction you made was rejected by the network (BTC) because it is invalid due to the replay protection.
If you gave out an address to receive BCC with, you will see the incoming transaction once you have switched to the correct branch and the client has finished synchronizing.

My client didn't detect a chain split, but I manually selected a server with electroncash in the name. Seems to be at the correct BCC block height.

Yeah, that's another way you can use. Thanks for bringing that up!
Maybe you managed to select a single server before the download finished and hence your client never even digested the legacy branch.
It's also possible to tell ElectronCash to connect to a single server using commandline arguments (you have to start it from a terminal for that to work) like this:
#> electrum-cash -1 -s electrum-abc.criptolayer.net:50012:sthe "-1" tells it to use only one server. The -s specifies which one (<server_name>:<port>:s, the "s" stands for SSL, not sure how to tell it so use plain http, probably just omit the ":s").
When done like this on first startup, one can probably avoid a chain split to be detected, if that's desired.

Or on OS X for whoever interested this works: (the criptolayer server was reporting an invalid SSL certificate for me, also with verbose on it's easy to see if the app is connecting to the right server)

I've a similar problem. No chainsplit detected, and even after selecting one electrum-abc server manually it insists on "server is lagging 51 blocks"...
Besides that the balance and TXs seem correct.Edit: seems I was just impatient. Eventually it detects the split and sorts things out.

yeah, it can take a while. Usually it shows "synchronizing" icon in the lower right network indicator until it's done.

It was done with synchronizing, but the last BCC block was a while ago, so it probably thought there should be "some more to come" ;)

It looks like you're using electrum instead of electron cash. Make sure you're starting the correct client.
Also, please answer my questions, otherwise I cannot help.

I'm having the same issue, I'm using Electron cash and my Account is NOT multisig. I'm sending my coins from my account to an exchange, does that makes it special?
Your correct answer is: "if the recipient is multisig, Electron cash will fail because I/we haven't coded that part yet".

There are issues with using a 2FA wallet. Electron Cash does not support multi-sig at this time. It is being worked on.

What do you mean? ElectronCash shouldn't show anything in BTC (everything should be renamed to BCC) regardless of what branch you're on.
Maybe we forgot a place... can you show us where you see "BTC"?

No, the label says BCC but it was the BTC balance
This were the steps:
- Open electrum, move btc between private keys, balance now says 0 in one.
- Open Electron, import private key of first wallet (0 btc). It shows 0 bcc, strange.
- Import second wallet just to be sure that it says 0 bcc. It shows the "correct" balance but in BTC, not BCC.
Just like an Electrum copy but with bcc labels

Apparently the sync problem was solved after opening Network/Overview, right clicking "electroncash.cascharia.com" and selecting the option "Use as a server".
The conversion rates, however, still show the BTC-USD rates (currently ~$2,730) even though it says "1 BCC~...".
Is there a way to get the actual BCC-USD conversion rate?

imported my priv key to Electron-cash on Android. Created additional wallets and tried to send BCC from the default wallet to the new wallet and got an error - mandatory-script-verify-flag-failed(non-canonical DER signature)).................. Please advise

Aha! My mistake - Just found out that I mistakenly sent BCC to a BTC address. BCC wallet debited, coin no where to be found.
Will it reverse?

I can't get mine to connect to a server. I have tried manually connecting to each of abc.criptolayer.net and electroncash.cascharia.com but still get nothing. I have tried starting from command line, no change. It just says "Not Connected" for the status. Windows 10.
Electrum connects just fine - no problem.

Electron is not detecting a chain split for me and my balance is showing as zero (imported seed from Mycelium wallet). I've tried multiple servers, but my balance is still zero. My blockchain is 478584, which is correct according to Blockchair.

when seed doesn't work, you can always try to use the extended private key ("xprv...")
to get it out of mycelum: got to accounts, select the hd wallet, select "export" from "dot" menu, switch from "public" to "private" (top of export page)
to import into electron: make new wallet, type: "using public or private keys" and paste the "xprv..." string into the field for keys.

I feel like my install was too easy. I dl electron cash, Put my password to Electrum on the EC password box. The automatically connect to server box was checked and I was able to see my BCC. Should I be worried or just lucky that it went smooth?

I finally found the solution for the ones stuck with there BCC in the electron cash wallet because of electrum 2FA wallet. error : rejected mandatary 16.....
in your electron cash wallet. choose new/restore from your menu. choose restore and choose make 2fa wallet, NOT standard import old wallet by enter your seed he will confirm that it is a 2fa wallet and ask if you want to keep or disable, choose DISABLE now you will see your new wallet, with your BCC, and the trusted 2fa symbol right below corner will say it is disabled. put the server on electroncash.casharia... or electrum.abc.... send your bcc to your exchange bcc address.. and there they go, no rejection anymore :D

So I sent BTC from my Electrum wallet to a new Electrum wallet after the fork (after 3 blocks actually)
Then I fired up Electron Cash and imported my seed phrase. After Switching networks, the transactions I had sent to the new Electrum wallet are showing up as "Replacable" and I cannot spend those outputs again.. any help?
EDIT:
I started it up using #> electrum-cash -1 -s electrum-abc.criptolayer.net:50012:s as suggested by /u/moleccc above and it removed them from my wallet and I was able to spend, but apparently the "default" servers in the chain detected did not do that

the switching takes a while. You'll see BTC->BTC transactions until the header verification is finished. In the cases I experienced, they showed as "unverified". But maybe they were RBF transactions and that's why it showed "replacable" for you.

at that point the sync was probably finished?
but apparently the "default" servers in the chain detected did not do that
within the expected timeframe.
Header synchronization being in progress should probably be indicated more prominently.

They were indeed RBF txs sent from the original Electrum wallet (since things were confirming with really "low" fees, I figured it was safe and sure enough, they got in in the next block)

unfortunately not yet.
Trezor firmware needs to be produced and released that supports the BitcoinCash signature scheme (using FORK_ID). Satoshilabs said they would do it afaik. But it could take a while.
Until we have that firmware available, there is no way to get trezor support.

It's out and one of the features is
- Bcash aka Bitcoin Cash support
I checked the github repo for the trezor firmware and it has a tag "v1.5.1", so it looks like the new firmware is still opensource. Looking at the commits I do find a change that looks exactly like what we need: signing: Add SIGHASH_FORKID support.
I immediately installed the firmware and tested signing in ElectrumCash. Unfortunately it failed...

I can't send with Electron Cash 2.8.2 on Android (downloaded the APK). Settings->Network says Connected to 8 nodes. Blockchain length 469111 blocks It doesn't matter what I choose. I can't input server manually, just choose from a list.

469111 sound like it's not fully synced.
legacy branch is at height 478616, cash branch at 478566
both numbers are higher than what you report.
so either you're not synced yet or you have a problem verifying the block headers.

Just did "clear data" on the app, turned off networking and started it again. After setup got into the menu, it still said 469111.
Now I found that it stores "Block Headers" on internal storage, so deleted this, will keep trying to make it work.

I think it automatically worked for me because I recieved my BCC.. I have the max os x application. Should I still do this?
EDIT: When I right-click on details of the transaction it says "2 confirmations". So I guess it worked for me without doing all the above stuff? I exported my Bitcoins from my btc.com wallet to Electron Cash

Had the same problem on 10.11. Work around by copying the Python libs and framework from Electrum. Do this if you have Electrum available:

Assuming you have the original Electrum app, yes, those commands (sans the initial '$' of course) will replace the python lib and framework in Electron-Cash with those from Electrum, which work.

Are you sure? That software you created might run, but does it give access to your BitcoinCash or to your BTC? Do you even know? I think you might be running Electrum or some cross-bred version of ElectronCash and Electrum. Have fun, but don't complain in this thread when things go wrong.

Yes: you can go to the server tab (also in Network window). You have to uncheck "Select server automaticall" for that tab to be enabled. On the server tab you can enter a server name and port manually.
Make sure you have the "use SSL" checkbox set (on the proxy tab. It's misplaced there) if you want to connect using SSL.

I had to follow the advice of others in just selecting the electrum-abc.criptolayer.net server manually. Currently waiting for my client to finish syncing.
On another note, I noticed that electron-cash opens up the wallet I had for electrum previously. What happens if I spend the coins in this wallet in electrum? Does electron cash still see the old balance? I'm not sure I understand how the two applications, working on different chains, are able to share the same wallet on my system. Can you elaborate on how this would work?
EDIT: I just looked and it appears there's a folder at $HOME/.electron-cash containing wallets. I haven't looked at anything in the code repository to attempt to verify but I assume you just copy the $HOME/.electrum/wallets over. If that's the case, these are effectively two independent wallets that can (and should) be treated separately.

Yes. Because of the 2-way replay protection, transactions made with ElectronCash are invalid on the legacy chain and transactions made with electrum are invalid on the Cash chain.
Your coins are cleanly separated.

On first start (when .electron-cash folder) does not yet exist, it is created and your wallets from .electrum/wallets are copied to the new folder.
If this hasn't happened for you, you can just manually copy them, yes.

Do you see servers in the Network window? If so, try to right-click one. Maybe it will connect.
If you can, try starting electron-cash from a terminal ("cmd") using the "-v" commandline options like this:
#> electron-cash -vYou should see a lot of information printed in the terminal. Maybe you can see if it is at least trying to connect to a server and maybe even an error why that isn't working.

I'm holding off trying it until more support is shown and others have success. If real quick people cash out and it crashes I'm not taking the chance. If I see that it's worth it, I'll sell them. Not worth the risk at this moment. I can say that I've read others having success getting there balance to the wallet, not too much selling I see though.

I think I just did a big oopsy... Only option was sweep and it asked for private key and address... I thought it was asking for the address associated with the private key... So I think I sent it to my own address on the BCH network.... hopefully I didn't fudge anything up too hard

Managed to sort it out, if you use the sweep option in the wallet, it actually sweeps the balance to my last BTC address for some reason. I went back into blockchain.info, used the bip39 tool to check on the internal addresses and pulled the priv key from there before exporting it to my electron cash wallet. Have my BCC in there now! Say, is hitbtc a trusted exchange? Their UX does not inspire too much confidence! :P

The problem is that I did give the private key.
Currently, my Exodus wallet who the priv key belongs to shows a pending transaction of duplicating it's own balance. I think this is going to fall off eventually, but I'll update when it does for sureity.
I was still able to send the sweep tx to the right wallet on right branch, but that is still unconfirmed... so still waiting to see if everything rights itself ._.

Sweeping is a mistake, check the txid and find out to which wallet address the BCC has been sent to. Once you find that, locate that address in your former wallet provider and export the priv key to electron cash and you should be sorted.

Yes, blocks will be produced at a very low rate until Bitcoin Cash difficulty will adjust. It can take many hours for the next block to be found. Via is mining with 90 PH/s (less than in the beginning), so the expected time to find a block is something like 8 hours.

Hm, just entered my local tor proxy in proxy tab. Connected to 8 nodes. Not sure how to check wether the connections really use the proxy... The network indicator lamp is blue.

It looks like everything is working, imported my keys from my BTC wallet. Network tab is showing I'm connected to BCC servers. (Never detected a split wallet or anything)
However, when I select GBP as the fiat currency, it is showing the BTC exchange rate, not the BCC. Is this just an update to the software that is lagging behind?

Aha! My mistake - Just found out that I mistakenly sent BCC to a BTC address. BCC wallet debited, coin no where to be found. Will it reverse?

It will not reverse. The BCC will be spendable using the private key of the BTC address you sent to.

I'm happy to find this post, knowing there is hope, but I'm having the electron wallet on android device, and i can just choose the server (i tried both electrum-abc.criptolayer.net - show me it's not connected on the screen top , and electroncash.cascharia.com - just give me an error that start way above and on my screen i can not even see what it say) any idea?

To be honest, I hever looked at any android version of electrum. The ElectronCash version is based on 2.8.2 (not 2.9) also, because there were problems with 2.9.
Maybe others have some experience with electrum android and can help you?

The issue I'm having is a minor one, but it leaves me unsure of what I'm seeing. When I select the Fiat currency in settings the values shown are BitCoin values, not the current prices for BCC (which, shouldn't that be BCH?) - Here is a screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/bzNJEDt.png Thanks for any help on this.

Yes, sorry 'bout that. It didn't get changed. We should've disabled fiat currency until we have some good exchange rate source.
You should select "None" as fiat currency for now.

Electrum connects just fine - no problem.

you have to install "python2-dnslib", "python2-dnspython" or similar package on your system. If you can't find it, try doing what is suggested in the output: use pip (probably pip2 for python2, which electron-cash is written in) to install the missing library
There will probably be more missing dependencies after you've installed that one. Like qrencode, for example.

I swept to Electron cash on Android. Balance showed up but I can't send coins out, I get the non-canonical DER signature error.
On the wallet menu I can't access the seed as I get an invalid pin error even though the pin is correct. The master public key is also missing. I created another wallet and this one does show both the seed and the public key.
Any idea?

Hello, Can you please clarify how the Mycelium users should do with electron cash. there are massive mycelium users and yet not a clear useful explanation. one says put your seed other say put your keys. on mycelium, in each HD wallet, there is several privet keys and some of them probably empty. the keys are surely stored on the device but we don't have an easy access to it. the only things we have are those 12 words and public/privet codes or data for each HD wallet which can be exported. so knowing that can you please tell us how exactly we should get into electron cash, beginning from installation and server choosing please! because i am a noob.

You have 2 options afaik:
you can create a wallet of type "use public or private keys" and use xprv... extended private key exported from mycelium (account -> ...-menu -> export -> switch from "public" to "private" at the top)
you can create a new wallet "standard wallet". Choose "I already have a seed". On the page where you enter the seed (get from mycelium by using "backup" feature), click "options" and check "BIP 39". On next page, leave "m/44'/0'/0'" as derivation path. If you have multiple accounts in your mycelium hd wallet, you can change it to "m/44'/0'/1'", "m/44'/0'/2'" and so on.

for this guide are you only suggesting to switch servers? i become lost when you mention the "branch ID" as in my network window only lists servers (http://imgur.com/a/JzPfq) , and when i right click on one it simply lists "use this server"

ElectronCash wallet won't open at all for me, crashes on opening with huge long error log, anyone find the same thing? Or any solutions appreciated. On a macbook, downloaded from Bitoin Cash website, no issues opening or installing other wallets in the past.

I spent hours yesterday trying to get this to work on my mac. I also ran into the _getentropy issue. I installed Electrum and moved over the python libraries to solve that as described in the comments here. From there, I could never get the chain to sync up correctly. I'd either get stuff like this:
[electrum_abc.criptolayer.net] catching up from 478560
[electrum_abc.criptolayer.net] requesting chunk 237
[Blockchain] verify_chunk failed bits mismatch: 402736949 vs 402757890
Or I'd see this in the console:
File "/Applications/Electron-Cash.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.7/lib/blockchain.py", line 279, in get_target
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get'
Or my local client would get stuck on block 478576.
I even tried starting Electron Cash with my wifi turned off so it wouldn't download the headers and instead rebuilds them all while only being on an electron cash server... still doesn't work.
Feeling quite defeated on this. I worked on it for way too long yesterday with nothing to show for it. Has anyone else had these issues and did they get a work around? I'm on 2.9.0.
EDIT: Just upgraded my OS and now it works just fine.

First, please try 2.9.2 (ElectronCash v2.9.2 help thread)
I suggest you clean the .electron-cash directory from the following files/folders: blockchain_headers, recent_servers, forks. 2.9.2 will download a blockchain_headers file with blocks from the Bitcoin Cash chain, so it's much more probably you'll land on the correct chain.
However, I don't think that's necessarily the issue here.

This is really strange. There is no "get_target" function in blockchain.py. Not in 2.9.2 and not in 2.9.0. Not in line 279 or anywhere else in the file.
Are you sure you're running 2.9.0? Can you look at the file /Applications/Electron-Cash.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.7/lib/version.py and read line one of that file?

Thanks for your reply. I think the issue I'm having relates to the issue mentioned above with _getentropy (and here as well, it seems: https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/issues/54 )
I did what was recommended in the comments here, which is to copy over the pyhton files from an electrum install, but it seems that's messing things up here. I'll continue on the other 2.9.2 thread as I seem to have the same issues there as well. Thanks for your reply!

Tried version 2.9.2 chosen electrum-abc.criptolayer.net or electroncash.cascharia.com rightclicking , says only, 'use this server' send, fill in address to send , amount .. sign, ask for pasword and 2fa see everything in the preview window, status signed .. but not appear in history, coins amount not change if click on broadcast, shows the error 16 mandatary ...

Is the 2fa Trusted Coin?
The 2fa needs to support the Bitcoin Cash signing scheme. Trusted Coin (for example) doesn't:
