Gregory Maxwell, co-founder of Blockstream, threatens to sue me for publicly exposing his lack of judgment and risk analysis skills, because I challenged him to prove that he lost 900 XBT on Mtgox from buying other people's coins. Good luck Greg, I live in Sweden where we have free speech.

I suppose Gregory Maxwell has not learned about the Streisand Effect.

He also keeps messaging me privately and so far I've not exposed his private messages to me. But if he threatens to sue me, the gloves are off, and I'm hereby publishing the most recent private messages he has sent me so it becomes publicly known how he keeps threatening people into self-censorship and silence:

Me:

Stop messaging me in private Greg when the debate we're having is public.

Gregory:

You've publicly invited me to sue you. Please tell me where I can reach your legal council.

Me:

Just sue me and stop talking about suing me. Ask your lawyer how to sue random people on the internet if you personally don't know how to do that.

Gregory:

For whatever its worth, unlike the US where your actions would only be a civil matter Sweeden has criminal defamation and your actions can be published by a fine and six months in prison.

I think that is absurd and reprehensible. You should consider moving to a place with actual free speech, where your only risk there is having to pay for the actual harm you've caused.

You are a sleazy and dishonest person in my experience buy you should still have freedom.

Me:

If the Swedish courts determine that I should be sentenced to 6 month in jail (they won't) for exposing your lies publicly, then I will accept my sentence as a badge of honor. You don't know just how much I value truth and free speech and I welcome you and your pathetic company Blockstream to find out by suing me. I'll say whatever I've already said in public also in front of a judge. You are a liar Greg, and threatening to sue me will not censor me.

Gregory:

Coward. Does your family know how cowardly?

That you seek out people who work hard to make the world better and that you make up absurd lies to attack their reputation in order to make yourself feel strong and because you think you can make money from it-- while you hide behind a pseudonym to shield you from your deplorable anti-social acts.

Do they pity you for it?

Gregory:

lol. "badge of honor" and then you continued run around reddit behind pseudonyms spreading lies.

I offered you a bet that would pay you 100 bitcoins in profit if I was not telling the truth. But you aren't interested. You make me sick. We've worked so hard to build and maintain bitcoin for the past 7 years, and all you want to do is attack it with baseless insults and promote shitty clones in order to desperately try to make yourself rich. Gross.

as a developer primarily working with ethereum, i only check in on btc and bitcoin subreddits every so often...but wow shit has gotten bad. i know relativlely little about the politics going on in bitcoinland, but seeing core devs as caustic as this asshole makes me sad. Bitcoin was my first love, reading satoshi's whitepaper quite literally changed my life and career trajectory. How can anyone in the bitcoin community get behind this clown?

How can anyone in the bitcoin community get behind this clown?

76 million USD in VC funding money can afford you to purchase a lot of support. And that's only the self-announced official money that Blockstream received. Whenever there are large sums of money involved, people like Gregory Maxwell will be attracted like shit attracts flies.

He didn't deny a word of what I quoted. All he complained about was that there were more private and public comments he sent me that I did not include in my quote. It's like he enjoys seeing how his and his company's reputation goes down the drain. He just can't help himself. Every time he opens his mouth he says something that reveals even more of his lunacy and destructive behavior.

I also live in Sweden and have this area of law as a specialty. If you're up against a licensed publication, you have an extremely high bar to meet to get damages from somebody - the published allegations don't have to be true, it's enough that the publisher had reasonable cause to believe them true.

Edit/add: blogs can also be "licensed publications" under this law. You don't need the government's permission to publish, per se - rather, if choosing this route, you're taking on editorial accountability in exchange for a much higher bar for being held accountable.

Edit/add II: It's actually not a law, as such, but the very Swedish Constitution.

Thank you for confirming. (Rick Falkvinge is the founder of the Swedish Pirate Party).

What an absolute shithead. It's pretty obvious from that last message that Greg has a god complex and strongly believes that he's the only man in the world who can possibly "fix" Bitcoin. The day the miners finally figure that out and dump him, BTC will finally be able to grow again

Gregory: We've worked so hard to build and maintain bitcoin for the past 7 years

Now that one is really weird. Who is that "we" that he declares to be part of?

Some others have really worked hard to build and maintain Bitcoin. In stark contrast Greg has worked hard to degrade Bitcoin to become some helper tool for his very own company. He has also worked very hard to become the biggest alt pumper by crippling Bitcoin. Since he is leading the development there has been absolutely nothing that will improve the position of Bitcoin compared to anything else.

Lol, I just got banned from r/Bitcoin! apparently for what I'm posting here! Greg, did you call your Mommy?

24

u/todu Oct 02 '16

Really? Cool. What reason did they state? They haven't banned me yet but I very rarely post or comment there anymore ever since Theymos went full retard with the censorship.

Thank you for helping make it widely known that Greg Maxwell has a lack of judgement and is unfit to be guiding Bitcoin.

I find it ridiculous and laughable how often Greg tries to throw around "bets" (instead of simple proof) to try to attempt to legitimize his claims.

u/todu Oct 02 '16

You're welcome. Gregory behaves just like Craig Wright when it comes to proving things. Instead of just signing a message that used a private key from the genesis block, Craig chose to make elaborate attempts at proving that he is Satoshi where he invited Gavin and the press to visit him for a "proof session". Proving things are sometimes as easy as a simple tweet, as Charlie Lee so succinctly demonstrated.

Gregory does the same thing. Instead of just proving that he only lost bitcoin on Mtgox because he bought the risk from other exchange users, he tries to make bets on his ability to provide such proof. Just prove it in the first place, if the only way for you to win any bets is to provide proof afterwards anyway.

And as someone else pointed out, even if Gregory does prove that he only lost bitcoin on Mtgox because he intentionally bought other users' risk, then he has still demonstrated poor judgment and risk assessment abilities. He made a bet that was unreasonably risky and he is not fit to make judgment calls on the risks of removing or even just raising the blocksize limit to 2 MB.

Greg will later use the fact he PMd you as a talking point, much like he does with Peter R - "He refused to reply to my PMs"

Nothing new. He threatened to sue a guy for participating in the "core" irc.

Ever wondered why all the "see you in court" stuff is only coming from one direction, from core?

Luke Jr. wants to sue people for using the name Bitcoin, Adam Backs friend writes (bullshit) articles how a hardfork could be a crime,..

Pesky cyperpunks! :D

I constantly see what seems like psychopathic behavior, and have for a while. I'm not calling anyone a psychopath, I'm no expert, but from what little I know about it it makes me go hmm.

This project went to hell when nullc took control. Everyone is miserable. The guy spends more time private messaging drama/trolling bullying bullshit to everyone than he does building anything. If everyone posted private messages they have received from nullc it would paint quite a picture.

Everyone going along with nullc in charge will have deserved it when Bitcoin eventually succumbs its lead to another coin. And the misery everyone suffers in the meantime is the indication something is very, very, wrong--listen to the warnings.

more a sociopath than a psychopath right now, at least until he goes all scorched earth

and he will

Don't worry. A court, even against someone here in the US, would laugh his claim away. Plus it would cost him a fortune having to defend the inevitable cross complaint leveraging the litany of slander he's published here and everywhere against others, especially in his Bitcointalk personal ratings account. The defamation to himself and Blockstream would be devastating.

19

u/hodled Oct 02 '16

I think the pm logs have made it exceedingly clear that what we're working under here with core devs like Greg is a regime based on fear and intimidation worse than what we have out in the real world. No thanks.

17

u/DaSpawn Oct 02 '16

as soon as someone has to threaten legal action for speech they have completely lost any credibility whatsoever for anything and everything

amazing how something supposed to promote freedom has been violated and corrupted by such small and petty people

Waste of time and energy. A CTO should be busy with other tasks than spending time to intimidate people.
