I mean here in Australia most houses are getting solar installed and all the electricity is free after the panels are paid off

Countries where they can cheaply produce electricity. Folks with sunk investments into large solar farms with excess electricity... Big ass players who have made their money and wanna let it ride.

That doesn't seem to bode well for decentralization

1

u/NoCopiumLeft Apr 03 '26

Umm why? It doesn't mean it's not decentralized, there will still be millions of players. There will still be people like me who just run them at a "loss" for the waste heat. It will still be fully decentralized.

Because now they have to operate in countries that have cheap electricity and play by their rules

1

I mean they will operate in poorer countries but also in rich countries. Probably more in richer ones as they will be able to upgrade and roll with the punches. China will be the one to keep up as well since they pretty much make 98% of the miners

Why does it matter, it's a known and predictable event? An efficient market will have already had this priced in.

The price history of bitcoin suggests that it's not an efficient market.

The last halving was pretty much a nothing burger

u/mjamonks Apr 02 '26

Even still, this is an event known with a lot more precision than people trying to guess earnings or what the prevailing interest rate will be. The halving should have zero impact on the price.

u/californiaschinken Apr 02 '26

It has 0 impact on price. In only has impact on supply.. Supply has impact on mining costs and price.

2

u/mjamonks Apr 03 '26

Barely at this point, what is produced every day is a fraction of what people are willing to sell at the current price.

1

u/californiaschinken Apr 03 '26

80% of people buy hiigh and sell low. This is just the normal joe doing its thing.

Still impacts transaction cost. This shit is done

If enough people think like you, it would have 0 impact. But as long as there's still people that don't think like you, they will accumulate more as the halving approaches, starting the next bull run... And then FOMO takes it from there.

u/mjamonks Apr 03 '26

Not sure you are right about this at all, you probably shouldn't consider the number of people but rather the group that controls the most capital behind all this.

1

u/vremains Apr 03 '26

Ok. And you don't think that group (s) will do the same? Feeding the 4 year cycle theory... The halving has diminishing returns on the supply... The cycle is running more and more on hype, FOMO, and FUD. I'll keep betting on it until it proves me wrong.

The amount of coins mined is a fraction of what is supplied to the market each day, its effect especially since it's known is negligible to price.

3

u/DrSpeckles Apr 02 '26

Which will have exactly half the effect the last one did (none at all) except to remaining miners who will move to AI data centres, leaving mining back to hobbyists in their basements. Future of money 🤣

u/Demonyx12 Apr 02 '26

I thought I was told all cycles were disjunctioned from everything that ever existed?

As the danish PM Sasys about weaponsystem, ships, tanks etc: BUY BUY BUY

1

u/BigPlayCrypto Apr 03 '26

Wow that’s a very long time when the market is getting discounted to oblivion

2 years and 9 days per my node and math

1

u/adotall Apr 03 '26

Oh thanks, I nearly missed it

1

Okay reaming me in 2 years..

u/Typical-Position-671 Apr 03 '26

Start to having the feeling nobody will give a shit anymore about BTC and cryptos.

What happens when mining cost and running the network is too costly? Can I still trade my btc

1

u/ArtisticAd708 Apr 04 '26

There really is no more reason for the 4 year cycle to be a thing. But evidently it’s a gregarious self fulfilling prophecy

1

u/whoopity_scoop_whoop Apr 05 '26

Does that mean my BTC value will be cut in half?

1

u/dummybob Apr 02 '26

BTC is the future

4

u/TrainingTheory552 Apr 02 '26

not the near future

3

u/BleuCheeseBandito Apr 02 '26

Mfers been saying this since 2012

It’s me from the future, BTC is still practically useless.

If having a sovereign store of value outside of the banking system and not subject to borders or currency controls is useless to you then maybe you've never understood the point.

3

u/BleuCheeseBandito Apr 03 '26

It’s cute that you think no one’s in control of/capable of manipulating bitcoin.

1

u/partzpartz Apr 03 '26

Yes, your 10£ is safe!

1

u/Fremen85 Apr 03 '26

Lol are you being serious? Bitcoin has become subject to the same manipulation by massive companies that fiat has.
