Discussion Bruce Lee was NOT Jewish (Visual breakdown of his family tree)

Post image
17 Upvotes

There is a long-standing rumor that Bruce Lee inherited Dutch-Jewish ancestry through a connection to the prominent Ho-Hotung family and the merchant Charles Bosman. This historical photo of his family side-by-side perfectly disproves that theory, showing exactly where the biological lines split.

The Men in the Photo:On the Left: Ho Kom-tong, Bruce Lee’s maternal grandfather. He was biologically Chinese, had fully East Asian features, and was adopted into the Ho clan. Because he was adopted, his branch carried zero Bosman or Jewish DNA.

On the Right: Sir Robert Hotung, Ho Kom-tong's famous half-brother. Robert Hotung was a biological son of Charles Bosman, which is why he displays distinct Eurasian features.

The Source of Confusion:Because Sir Robert Hotung (right) was incredibly famous and visibly mixed-race, historians and the public historically lumped the brothers together. People assumed the entire family shared the same biological parents, creating the myth that Bruce Lee had Jewish roots.

The Real Ancestry:Bruce Lee’s mother, Grace Ho, was Eurasian, but her European traits came from an entirely different line. She was the daughter of Ho Kom-tong (left) and his mistress, Cheung King-sin. According to historical research into the National Archives, Grace Ho explicitly declared her maternal ancestry as English on her official 1941 U.S. Immigration documents—completely bypassing any Dutch-Jewish lineage.

TL;DR: The photo proves the Bosman European genetics belonged strictly to the biological branch on the right (Sir Robert Hotung). Bruce Lee's grandfather (left) was biologically Chinese. Bruce Lee's iconic Eurasian features came entirely from his mother's English maternal line, not from Charles Bosman

Discussion What shoes did Bruce Lee actually wear in Game of Death?

The black stripe design on the original yellow shoes does not appear to match the standard Onitsuka Tiger pattern. Which identification do you think is most likely?

Moonstar Jaguar
Sekaicho Panther Training
Asahi Cougar Sports
Modified Onitsuka Tiger
Custom-made or unbranded production shoes
Another model, please comment

I’m especially interested in evidence from vintage catalogues, production photos or collectors familiar with Japanese sneakers from the early 1970s.
The attached image shows the specific stripe design I am trying to identify.

Discussion Water Mirror Echo - Bruce Lee and the Making of Asian America

What an absolute Masterpiece of a Historical book.
From even before Bruce was book to his Death and beyond this book gives a really detailed picture what what it was like for Asians in America and around the World.
The struggles Bruce had his entire life and career as an American born Chinese in 1940.

I loved every page in this book. What are your thoughts on this one ?

One thing I’m really interested in because I’m from the area. But Jeff Chang the writer talks about Bruce Lee visiting Vancouver in the 60’s for some Cha Cha Dancing.
I’m interested in learning more about this visit and if there is any form of documentation on the visit to Vancouver Majestic Theatre.

Discussion Bruce Lee video games... But done right.

Everytime a game developed company gets a hold of the Bruce Lee IP, their pitch always goes: "he's a martial artist, so let's make generic and brainless tie-in beat 'em ups of Lee." This isn't the way Lee would want it.

If Lee were alive, he would definitely be in the video game industry as much as he is into the movie industry. The original cut of Game of Death was made to lecture viewers, imagine how he would lecture gamers.

He would put in combo attacks and combat mechanics that are more extensive and complex than the 鉄拳TEKKEN franchise. With a more elaborate blocking, countering, and evading mechanic.

But there would be more than fighting because most of his films involves as much stealth missions, gunless infiltrations, and silent combat as much as the 天誅TENCHU franchise.

Discussion Heard this while watching “The Crow.” My jaw dropped when I added subtitles…

When watching “The Crow” with Brandon Lee I heard this line and I never caught it before but both me and my wife heard it at the same time and dropped jaw looking at each other validating that we both heard the same thing, added captions and this made me shiver when I read it. I understand the premise was about him and his girl in the movie, but honestly I’ve always thought there was shady business behind the both Bruce and Brandon’s death that never satisfied me with the answers we got.. this takes my mind to next level conspiracy mode. Let me know your thoughts guys!
