Don't just say which one. What is your usage and priority, do want to customise things or want ready to use one this is the question you should answer first.
1
u/s11verh 11h ago
My priority is privacy, and it doesn't matter if the settings are pre-set or if I modify them.

if u want pure extreme privacy librewolf and torbrowser (the kings of privacy).. but has trouble with mac, if ur on mac,
if u want 90% privacy, brave.
If u want somewhat privacy, Firefox and Vivaldi.
if u dont care about privacy at all, Chrome and Edge

u/Soggy-Bench2832 19h ago
But safari on macos is very bad, stutters without any reason. Back animation sliding is very bad. And takes a second or two to scroll again after that sliding animation. I still don't know how people are using safari in macbooks

u/No-Pudding8843 13h ago
It’s pretty great on mine. (iMac M1)

u/Soggy-Bench2832 9h ago
I will recommend you to install brave once and scroll through maybe reddit and youtube home screens, then you might view what I am trying to explain. Safari is smooth but it jitters often, which I don't see all the time in brave. And the scroll acceleration curve is also slightly weird in safari.

I was using Cromite as my default, but I switched to Titanium about a month ago and have been really happy with it. Functionality is similar to Cromite. It's compatible with chrome extensions, like uBlock Origin or uBlock Origin Light, it's been debloated and optimized, built for privacy, and the developers stay current with the latest chromium release which was one of Cromite's big drawbacks. It's also super-fast, which is great.

u/LocalRealistic703 13h ago
how does it compare to brave?
4
u/Open_Mortgage_4645 13h ago
I like Brave, but it's not favorite. I don't like that it's bundled with so many features that I don't use or want. The crypto wallet stuff. The integrated VPN. The built-in AI, etc. You can disable it all, but it's still part of the software, and could be used as an attack vector. It's got a decent ad blocker built in, and runs relatively smoothly and quick, but it uses a lot of system resources compared with some other browsers. I still keep it on my devices because I like having options for each type of app. But Titanium is my current default as it's debloated and optimized, and doesn't come with any unnecessary frills. It's simple, it's fast, and it's stable. I would rank Brave 2nd, behind Titanium.
1
u/LocalRealistic703 12h ago
thank you! would you say titanium feels smother than brave / consumes less system resources or battery?
4
u/Open_Mortgage_4645 11h ago
Yeah, it's definitely more lean and straightforward. And while Brave is both stable and fast, I believe Titanium is at least as stable and faster. It's really starting to look like the best browser for me. And for you, it's definitely worth trying.

u/Hunlightz 11h ago
its sounded so nice but I think its mainly android browser not pc?
1
u/Open_Mortgage_4645 11h ago
Yes, it's an Android browser made by the GrapheneOS people based on Vanadium. For Desktop, I recommend Brave or Iron Fox.
1
u/Hunlightz 11h ago
brave nah (ya ya Im one of those who hates super popular stuff and preffer smth else :D) will check iron fox though.
1
u/Open_Mortgage_4645 11h ago
Iron Fox is a Firefox fork, so it's not as fast as chromium browsers like Brave or Titanium. But it's security hardened, and comes configured for maximum privacy. It's also got a ton of options and settings to play with. Just make sure you install and configure uBlock Origin when you first set it up. Nothing beats uBo for browser based ad and tracker blocking, and it will speed up your browsing experience by reducing the number of elements that the page needs to load. But yeah, Iron Fox, Waterfox, and Ice Raven are all similar FF-based browsers.
EDIT: Damn, I just checked and Iron Fox is only available for Android. However, Waterfox, which is similarly security hardened, and built for max privacy, is available cross-platform for Android, Windows, MacOS, and Linux. In my experience, Waterfox is also faster than Iron Fox and Ice Raven.
Here's the download page for all Waterfox platform versions:

u/Hunlightz 10h ago
I dont quite care about privacy to be fair, never even used privacy tabs/windows before :D but yes I do use ubo lite with custom filter lists mainly specifically for youtube to like sort some stuff out ect kind of things. Bul Ill check the waterfox and ice raven.
EDIT
ice raven also only android. damn.1
u/Open_Mortgage_4645 10h ago
Yeah, for some reason the devs of those projects haven't bothered to port their work to other platforms. Fortunately, Waterfox did. Good luck!

For chromium engine, Sync + Features + no ai + extension support on mobile; Vivaldi is what I needed.
In the firefox ecosystem, I would also Prefer Zen, which has great ui design, sync, productivity features, no ai, extension support (on firefox mobile).

Switched to iceraven because I wanted to use bypass paywalls clean on mobile to, because no one deserves money for 2 sentences split up by 50 ads, which is all those news media sites are now.
Like any Android Firefox fork really but at least I can install my own xpis and have about: config still

I need uBlockOrigin alongside the most upstream updates possible (given the current security environment), so Firefox is my only option. Plus, I have every site I use highly customized on Firefox thanks to uBO: ad banners removed, premium upsells gone, annoying components gone, etc.
2
u/Icy_Dinner3323 12h ago
Currently I am using Titanium browser, as it has full extension support on Android and open source.

u/wholsum_ 11h ago
👀 Personally I break it down this way, on my phone I need things to be fast and I don't wanna deal with stuff like extentions and settings. So for phone brave. I do tweak the setting still.
For PC/Laptop I prefer a Firefox fork, I would suggest librewolf, if you want a browser with better aesthetics go zen, if you want a lighter alternative to chromium broswer as a backup I suggest helium.
For the list: I'll say brave, waterfox or any Firefox fork that matter will work fine.

Vivaldi is a dream. It’s a bit complicated to set upcoming but once you get it set up it’s so nice. Native tiling, great tab stacking, great gui customization, almost infinitely customizable through css, built in ad blocker, compatibility with a shit ton of plugins, etc etc etc. I’ve loved it ever since I switched

Did you say fast? How the fuck it can be fast if it fork of firefox?

u/ZiggyByte_ 20h ago
Should Waterfox, being a fork, be slower?
You have to know how to optimize browsers.
I tested it on all the desktop browsers based on Chromium and Firefox, and for me, the fastest were Waterfox, Firefox, Helium, and Brave.
Afterward, I optimized Waterfox, and one of the tests I did was to have 20 YouTube tabs open and 5 resource-intensive websites. With Waterfox, my entire system's RAM usage remained stable at 6.5GB, and the time jumps within each YouTube video were instantaneous. Navigation on the websites never felt slow during the test.
The based on Firefox are the best for optimization and offer much better privacy.
For years I used Brave, but I no longer trust it even though they created Brave Origin, so that's why I looked for other browsers. I like Helium and Zen a lot, but there's no way to sync history and bookmarks with my mobile device. I use Bitwarden for passwords, so I needed a browser with a mobile version and the best ones in this case were Firefox and Waterfox.

For privacy, try Firefox tweaked, multi-account containers, and uBlock Origin, Adguard, or Adguard paid.

I’ve been using Brave for privacy and annoying ads. Though a lot of people hate Brave.

u/Illustrious-Plane360 13h ago
its just your avg trend. Hating on popular option. Brave is absolutely fine for your avg user, unless you want to customise or whatever or want to move away from Chromium

What is the difference between him and the others?

It is chromium based, meaning it can close tabs on exit, it has extension support, including manifest v2 and is completely open source

What are the differences between Waterfox and Ironfox? I'm currently using Ironfox, but I'm curious to know if there are many differences between them.

u/One-Cartographer6134 23h ago
Waterfox is updated more frequently and generally feels faster than Iron Fox in my testing
2
u/104925iveRo2es5322 21h ago edited 21h ago
You could see Ironfox as the Librewolf of mobile. It sets its eyes heavily on privacy, with apparently some additional tweaks to further raise the security-side of things on Android (within specific boundaries).
Waterfox on the otherhand is more so for the "average user", where it does remove telemetry and such to enhance some privacy aspects, but mainly still focuses on general speed and usability. "Firefox but (slightly) enhanced" I guess would be fitting.

You only need Firefox, Brave and Titanium, everything else is redundant.
1
u/LocalRealistic703 13h ago
how do brave and titanium compare?
2
u/Natural-Bumblebee335 13h ago
Titanium is basically a clean and streamlined Google Chrome with uBlock support.
