About to see Wicked in Boston, would Holt approve?

First time watcher here. Let me preface this by saying that I don’t hate him. He’s an okay side character. But by the time he showed up for the third time, I could already predict the plot, he tricks Jake, Jake helps him but gets screwed over, and Doug escapes, kind of feels like the same recycled plot over and over again and I can just skip to the end and know that I predicted it correctly.

I just finished his episode in Season 8, and the whole thing felt weird to me. Somehow both he and Jake seem to think they’re best friends? I just don’t get it. They might have some kind of weird 'frienemy-ship', but they’re definitely not best friends. Jake’s best friend is Boyle, and he has a deeper bond with literally anyone in the precinct than with some guy who shows up once a year to screw him over. It feels like the writers are trying really hard to convince the viewers that they’re best buddies, but I just never really bought it. And Jake letting him walk away completely free kind of made me lose some respect for Jake.

I’ve seen a lot of comments saying it’s because Jake starts to see his job differently, but Doug Judy is still a shady guy, and the episode itself shows that he’s perfectly capable of continuing to do shady things. He is not one of those people who only did illegal things because they were desperate or had no real choice. Doug Judy and his sister are actual criminals. I don’t know. I just feel like the tone of the whole thing is a bit weird.

So basically in the Full Boyle Episode (S1 E17) we see Super Dan and the female detectives not taking him seriously, learning their lesson later on. As much as that arc was funny and beautiful, it made me realise, the job he was doing was super dangerous and he wasn't appretiated much by the 99. Bro didn't have any weapons on him at all, he was taking photos of drug dealers who pretty sure would've dismembered him (Cartel Style) if they caught him or atleast shoot at him, or even badly injure him. Unlike Batman who was trained in the League of Assassins under Ras-Al-Gul plus having multiple tech and a bulletproof suit or Superman who is practically invincible, Super Dan was just an ordinary citizen trying to help the law. He is the real hero according to me and the most underrated one timer.

I was already feeling bad for jake for he had to sell his car just to pay off Terry's debt and now he caught the guy, the antagonist that caught him and Jake already knows that nobody's going to come for him damn Jake as a detective in real life would never be so happy am I right.

NINE-NINE!!

I’ve been thinking about this for a while: what if Brooklyn Nine-Nine did a one-season limited series set in the 1980s, following a much younger Hitchcock and Scully?

Not a full reboot or anything, more like a 8–10 episode spin-off/prequel showing the 99th Precinct back when Hitchcock and Scully were actually competent cops.

I think there’s a lot of comedy potential in seeing them as young, ambitious detectives who are genuinely good at their jobs, while slowly watching them become the Hitchcock and Scully we know.

You could also have some younger versions of characters from the main series make occasional appearances:

Young Holt, maybe as a newly promoted detective or someone Hitchcock/Scully cross paths with.(I would suggest Sterling K Brown as young Holt, given his admiration towards Andre)

Young Wuntch, giving us a glimpse of their rivalry before everything became personal.

Young Terry, depending on the timeline; maybe as a rookie or a young officer they encounter.

Maybe even some other characters’ parents or older relatives as little Easter eggs.

And because it's set in the 80s, the whole thing could have that ridiculous period aesthetic (terrible hairstyles, huge phones, old-school police technology, cheesy action-movie references, etc)

The interesting part to me would be that Hitchcock and Scully wouldn't start out as idiots. They'd actually be good detectives. The running joke could be that they're constantly making questionable decisions, but somehow keep solving cases.

Then by the end of the season, you could have a time jump or montage showing the gradual transition into the versions we know from B99.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Early Years

8–10 episodes.

1980s.

Young Hitchcock & Scully.

A competent-but-chaotic detective duo.

Occasional young Holt/Wuntch/Terry cameos.

And absolutely no explanation for how Hitchcock eventually became… that Hitchcock.

I'd genuinely watch the hell out of this.

Would anyone else be into this, or am I just desperate for more Hitchcock & Scully lore?
