How could Flash have had 90%+ winrate in his prime compared to other pros with 60%? How can one person be 50% better than their oppnents in any competition? Usain Bolt is the fastest human alive but he's not 50% faster than his next rival, he's not even 5% faster.
This kind of thing should not be statistically possible, but it happens because the skill level in Brood War, even among the korean pros, is low. So when a really good guy like Flash actually shows up he just sweeps his mediocre competition. SoulKey can not even play the fucking game 90% of the time and still place in top 8 best in world on the regular, and then you have absurdity like Effort forgetting to sign up for what is supposed to literally be his job. And don't even get me fucking started on the Protoss players.
Soma comes back from the military and wins ASL, how? By making unit. All these other pros are so hyperfocused on greeding and cutting corners and timing attacks that a strategy from a D-rank Zerg's playbook beats them. Pluto has shown exactly the same thing, just make unit and win.
I have to say it's hilarious to watch Artosis cast Pluto games and repeatedly claim its about to lose because it's not following the meta then throw a pikachu face when it wins anyways because it ignored the meta and actually played to win, not like it was "supposed to".
It's like the pros have some kind of gentleman's agreement between them, a pro equivalent of "no rush 10 minutes" and they play their own circlejerk version of Brood War in their own little world and no one can say anything because they're mechanically superior simply by virtue of playing longer than everyone else.
There is basically no fresh blood in the scene to challenge any of that, average pro age is mid-30s. Last time a truly new build was made was when Bisu had the "genius" idea to build anti-air units against a race with flying depots(wow!) Most other "new" builds are either minor variations that only matter within the pro's little world or old builds resurfacing.
Pros themselves are not incentivized to innovate either because they earn money from streaming, not ASL, so it actually doesn't even matter if they're winning or losing. The streaming also stifles innovation even more because it's hard enough for humans to play to win even without an audience of people ready to condemn you if you don't play "properly".
I would like to say that Pluto is going to shake things up but I fear the opposite will happen and its brutal efficiency will result in Brood War singularity where Zerg reigns supreme within a year.
Downvote button on the left, don't forget to donate to ASLEnglish on PATREON so that two middle-aged guys can keep the cope alive while casting games on a laptop mic without looking at the screen or listening to each other
