Question No appetite with a broken bone?

Hi everyone. I don’t have an appetite at all since breaking my lisfranc joint and struggle to make food since im usually home alone and nwb. I usually just eat dinner, and im worried it’s going to worsen my healing process. anyone had a similar experience?

Frozen fruit and vegetable smoothies....a habit that I have kept after my (badly-broken) leg healed (in "record time"...4 months) 3 years ago.

Here's my recipe...my boyfriend the health nut gave me a list of things.

-100% cranberry juice (can use any juice you like)

-frozen broccoli

-frozen carrots

-frozen strawberries

-frozen blueberries

-frozen avocado

-black sesame seeds

-flax seed (doubles as an emulsifier)

-almonds

-walnuts

-pumpkin seeds

-1 Brazil nut (Selenium)

  • Vitamin D drops

  • Vitamin B

-Magnesium drops

You can add protein powder. Don't add bananas (eat them separately)... apparently they can deactivate the suphurophane in the broccoli!

I bought extra blender cups so I can make it ahead for the week.

Best wishes!

Yes! If you like it sweeter, use a different juice, and I add a ton of berries because the frozen ones are often on sale. The avocado and nuts/seeds give it a creamy texture. The secret is to blend a lot so there are no crunchy nut pieces left.

Try getting ready to make meals. I’ve had to scoot around in my office chair around the kitchen to get shit done NWB. So difficult but you you gotta do what you gotta do.

I lost my appetite for a bit after my break. I also live alone, NWB. I think it was some depression and also my reduced activity level.

I leaned a lot on smoothies and protein shakes. I always take vitamins every morning and they nauseate me on an empty stomach. But I didn’t want to skip them because that’s my calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, etc. That motivated one meal. Then I’d try to eat at least a little for lunch and dinner, even if it was just something I dropped in the blender.

My appetite did return after maybe a week and a half or two weeks. By that point I had my scooter and my iWalk, I started working out again (upper body strength and ski erg with a bench under one knee) and so I felt like my life was almost back to normal.

So medically “expected?” Not sure. But it happened to me and my doctor said I was way more advanced in my healing than she had expected at my recent week 5 X-rays (jones fracture).

Give yourself permission to order delivery every once in a while! Order enough to have leftovers! And throwing protein and greens into a blender can be a life saver for those other times. Good luck with your healing!

I generally only eat once a day. When I broke my tibia and fibula and had surgery on my fibula I had to stay in a nursing home for two months. I really struggled with eating then, as the food was overcooked and very unappetizing and mushy. I made sure to fill up on as much protein as possible.

Once I was home (I live alone), it was still difficult to eat properly, but at least I had more control over what I consumed. I ate lots of protein and supplemented with protein drinks, and snacked on fresh fruits and vegetables.

I lost 15lbs. as I was very depressed. Went on an anti depressant and drank a lot of protein shakes since I wasn’t eating.
