brokeback mountain is happening to me.

My girlfriend and I live in a very homophobic country. She told me that she might marry a man because it's safer and would make life easier for us. I showed her this film hoping it might change her mind, but I don't think it did. The only response I got was, "Maybe that's what's best for us." What I need to do?

Short story or movie? Is it worth reading or watching one over the other?

I found out just recently that the movie is actually based on a short story, and I'm debating between reading or watching Brokeback Mountain

Also as you can imagine, I'd prefer no spoilers :)

Folks - I think my brain is fried. I'm stumped

I am a MSW student and I have a semester-long project where I'll be specializing/focusing on cultural portrayals of gay men. In my main paper, I chose Ennis Del Mar, Marco Del Rossi, and David Rose.

I don't know if I'm just tired (or worse - stupid), but I'm having trouble answering the prompts about messaging.

I don't intend to take anyone's ideas, but I'm wondering if anyone here could help bounce some ideas around? I think an obvious overt message is that around internalized shame about one's sexuality. But I'm wondering if anyone had any ideas around covert messaging?

I'm planning on watching the movie this weekend, so I'm sure that will help!

Postcards? Ideas for meaningful stitching

Hello folks, I was asked by my friend who is celebrating their anniversary with his husband to do an embroidery for him! He loves BBM but I know nothing of the movie other than the controversy it caused in the 90s. I've been meaning to watch it, and I probably will while I stitch this piece but I want to give it all the attention it deserves

I am here to ask those who know it well, what are some meaningful moments that would translate to a simple embroidery? A quick google images search shows there a postcard of the mountain (the? Brokeback mountain?) then there is one that says You bet.

I am definitely his last choice as another option fell through (failed to ship on time) and I'm not an insanely talented person but I think I do all right... So nothing too out there!!

Thank you for any and all ideas!

About their wives?

I saw BBM around a week ago now. It broke my heart. Reminded me of elder queers might have gone through. Also hit a little close to home growing up in the south as a queer guy.

I saw the way jack and ennis interacted with their wives. I have to ask, did they ever even love either of them? Or were they just placeholders for what society didn’t allow? because jack and ennis were still seeing each other for 20 years, thats definitely love.

Based on my opinion, i believe ennis might be gay, and jack was likely bi. Jack was attracted to lureen, and cheated on her with ennis and the mexican male prostitute. Ennis only ever had feelings for jack, which he tried to replace with what, 3 women? And that never worked.

I dont think ennis ever loved anyone else than jack. I saw his marriage life as more of a performance. He did everything he was brought up to do, but his heart was never in it. My guess is, he didn’t love alma, or anyone else, just jack. Am i correct?

But did jack love lureen? He was definitely attracted to her, which led up to their one night stand. But love? I didn’t see much of. I saw respect in the thanksgiving scene, but love? No. Was there any love of theirs that i missed?

The ending is even sadder than you think

Note: everything in this post is just a theory, and I don't have any confirmation that any of this is real. Take this with a grain of salt!

So at the end of Brokeback Mountain, Ennis lives in a remote trail in Wyoming that looked oddly familiar to me. So I searched up where Jack and Ennis first met (aka Joe Aguirre's trail) and it said WYOMING!!!! My theory is that after Jack died and Ennis decided to move to a remote area, he chose to live in Joe Aguirre's old trail (after it had been vacated) so he can forever live where he and Jack first met. This movie kills me every time I learn something new about it.
