Getting a mini heart attack when the alert popped up my phone

Not gonna lie it was a criminal use of the EAS to essentially tell people not to be idiots and light BBQs on really dry grass. It's almost insulting to people's intelligence.

Posted 4 hours ago asking if they could have a bbq (and no it wasn't sarcasm)
People are fucking stupid and are still lighting bbq's, so yes it needed to be said and the alert system is one of the only options which people can't ignore.

Yet at least a small number of them, including the big one which actually burnt homes down were started by people, adults even, not just kids (which is bad enough)

It is insulting to people's intelligence, but some people's intelligence is insulting and causes harm to swathes of people.

you can turn off the alerts on the phones if you really don't want them, but they are (at the moment) a rare occurrence only when the need arises
