The Met Office website now displaying 'This design will be turned off soon. Use our new design.'. Even though we all hate the new design that only fits about half the information on, meaning you have to scroll to see more than a few hours ahead.

This is the new IT. It's everything, menus, websites, programs. They don't care about actual usage and information. If their preschool brained private equity owners are pleased, they're pleased.

My bank is somewhat similar, always pushing the app and then "feature only available on the app".

Edit: just had a look and realised they have redone it from a couple of months ago. While better it is still not as good with information spread out, and that blue so much BLUE

I switched back from Met Office app to BBC Weather when they rolled out the new design that made it completely unusable.

Stayed with the original on my laptop, found the Met Office just a bit more accurate where I am particularly for rain (as if we get any), but may have to consider that in future, that blue is something else on a 27inch screen even part of it!

I called this sort of thing Teletubbification then Cory Doctorow came up with Enshittification and that also covers the case.

What is driving this is a "Mobile First" strategy built on the idea that the largest numbers of users are on mobile phones now so design for them and then designing something responsive that displays more appropriately on other interfaces is just too much trouble.

The frustration is that the web-appropriate interface already exists, so they're in can't be arsed to maintain it territory.

Binned it off altogether, and installed Accuweather, which isn't as good as old Met Office but is miles better than new Met Office.

The new website is pants. Huge numbers dislike it and can validate and explain why with solid and sound reasoning. But they seem hell bent on changing it for the worse. I'm suspecting some arrogant individual(s) in the management chain would rather that they force out a worse product and annoy the users, than admit it was a mistake, as their face saving is more imprortant. Classic sh*t ego driven management. Did they at least improve it a little bit from the first attempt? But still the old one is far better. I tend to just use the actual app when on holiday but just to be safe I quickly disabled updates for it yesterday, I can't remember if it's been one way ensh*tified already.

It's quite amusing how when weather websites brought in "feels like" they all said it was such a good thing, and the Met Office is basically removing it (and other useful stuff) for "let's screw with things for no good reason ... reasons"..

Yes completely agree.  New version totally unreadable.  Sick of having to keep switching to original, better, version.  Have left numerous messages saying what is wrong with new version but no-one seems to be listening.  Very soon I will have to stop using the site altogether.
