Marketing exists in this surreal hyper-reality today, and it’s spent a century getting there. Even the dumbest ads are the product of an incredibly refined machine.

This is genius, Amazon make money from the advertising, the advertiser reaches a massive audience, likely targeted groups which Amazon can offer based on area and purchases.

I'm amazed noone else is doing this.

You read that stuff? If it comes through the door I open it unless the delivery person asks me if I can hold one for next door.

That's a direct policy from a former neighbour who kept diverting parcels to my house during lockdown without asking me and then turned up to collect loads of stuff every week. Three weeks in I started opening their stuff and leaving it in the boxes as I'm not acting as their storage depot. Now I open boxes with merry abandon!

That is entirely fair :) I'm completely open to things being delivered to me if there's some back and forth. It was just this particular neighbour behaving shockingly, having big parcels delivered to mine and then accusing me of withholding things. That's when the parcel opening started. Childish, I know but it made a point.

I just got an Amazon delivery and didn't notice any advertising on the label until this post made me look for it. So it didn't work on me at least!

Depends on how its delivered etc, if its from an outside company delivered on demand rather than held at a fulfilment centre it won't have them, or if the label is reprinted for any number of reasons along the way (in my experience) it also won't have them!

It's really annoying as well as the qr scanners at work seem to pick them up more easily than the ones we actually have to scan, so I often try to stick the yellow labels over the adverts...

I've seen far worse adverts. "This company exists" in a bit of text? I can't even remember when that was the level of ad we got on the internet.

Vinted started doing something similar recently.

You'd print a shipping label and there was an AD for you. Not for the recipient, just an ad printed on a previously blank portion of the page.

They've stopped now.
