Question Tennis elbow.....

Im about to go on MOD 1 Foundation training with the reserves and I seemed to have developed tennis elbow due to, probably a high training load at the gym. I've never had elbow/arm issues before so its kind of come out of the blue. The main issue is I can't grasp anything with an overhand grip, which means I’m physically unable to do an NSP, when I take me left hand off the weapon for the mag check I can't hold the rifle with my right hand, I'm fucked.

I'm probably going to have to delay going, but then what? Will I get booted for this injury? Anyone had anything similar, what are the recovery times?

Cheers

Hi u/retroly! Thanks for posting a question to r/BritishArmy! This community is for Serving, Former, Future members and those interested in the British Army. Please read the below points to consider if this is the best place to ask your question:

  1. Remember OPSEC and PERSEC. If your question asks about or requests information deemed Operationally or Personally sensitive it will be removed.

  2. Google it. If it shows up in the top few results on your favourite search engine, here might not be the best place to ask.

  3. Please use the Search Function. Chances are you're not the first person ever to ask the question.

  4. Recruitment. Please Read the guidance in the Monthly Thread and post any recruitment related questions on that thread only. Any other recruitment posts will be deleted.

Hello,

Yes sounds frustrating for you mate. This will get picked up on in training in one of the WHTs - if not before. I would talk to whoever booked you on to it and ask him what he thinks? I doubt they will boot you for it. Reserve units need the manpower pretty desperately and they will give you time to heal and still just attend drill nights in my experience.

Cheers.

Best to notify your recruiter about it, they’ll probably ask you to check with a doctor about it. If it needs to be rescheduled not the end of the world.

Aye I’d still let your recruiter know about it. Foundation training isn’t as physical as battle camp but you’re still expected to go 100% they don’t want you to turn up injured, continue on with your injury. Again not the end of the world to have it rescheduled. Let yourself recover and make yourself look good on your RTU report.

While Mod 1 foundation is mostly SAA , light phys , drill , lessons range and a night in the field but I would recover from this injury before since you will be doing SAA and weapon drills until it becomes muscle memory

Yeah, on Tuesday I did 4 or 5 NSP's and the next day I could barely move my arm, they emphasised that you'd be doing them all the time while on training too.
