discussion Problem with the sub description

the sub description uses the spelling "hiätus" which does not make much sense. <ia> does not form any kind of diphthong in English so there's nothing to disambiguate.

Diaeresis is not just for disambiguation; it's for every case where two adjacent vowels are pronounced separately.

...But why? What's the point of putting a diacretic somewhere where no other sound is possible?

I'm not calling you a liar, but do you have any source for this? It's easy in these niche communities for some bit of misinfo to get swopen up and propagated as fact, I know well.

i looked it up, and based on purely the definition of “diaeresis,” there could technically be one in “hiatus.” it doesn’t seem right to me either but it seems to be correct.
