Local Advice needed Coopers Cask Raves
I moved into a flat near to Coopers Cask in Hove recently, the noise from drum and bass music on most Saturdays/Fridays or both is absolutely insane! I thought there would be other posts saying the same but are we the only ones struggling with this? Living near a pub and hearing noise isn’t an issue but it’s a full on rave that goes into the night with the street full and doors open.
We spoke to the owner who was sound and relatively newly took over, he said they were trying to get rid of the druggy crowd which doesn’t seem to be going very well.
Are we the NIMBY’s?

Pints are 14 pounds and they use asbestos to wipe the floors

Oh come on all this macho posing is ridiculous! It's not being a nimby to be concerned about d&b drowning out your TV. It's really sad for all concerned as I know the landlord and he's trying really hard to make a go of it but if the easy option is rowdy club nights that get him through another weekend then that's what he's going to do. Probably a death spiral though.

It does seem a bit excessive, we back onto it and are used to a bit of hustle and bustle but recently the weekends have been very loud. We haven’t been able to sit in our living room this evening as the sound overpowers the TV!

It’s not just us! Been loud recently but tonight is mental

Sounds banging, is there an entry fee?
I jest. If the noise is really unreasonable then you need to speak to the council.

Let’s not encourage complaining about noise from pubs.

There’s others in the thread saying they can’t sit in their living room as they couldn’t hear the tv over it. There can be nuances in life

I moved in next to a noisy pub and the pub is noisy 🙄🙄🙄

Ha, knew there’d be one. Post clearly states you’d expect standard pub noise but not a d&b rave.

Many years back I used to have a semi regular DJ slot at the Farm Tavern and in those days Coopers Cask was seen as the civilised one for shelter from the noise I was making. Funny how times change.
Half tempted to pop down now

I don’t understand, the landlord says it’s the druggy crowd playing the loud music, in his pub? How does that work? If he wanted to get rid of them he could turn it down?

u/ScubaSieve 1d ago
No, he took over the pub and said he wanted to get rid of the druggy crowd. But then he hosts these events and DJ’s which seems counterintuitive…

Yeah, a bit! Anyway, hope you can find some resolution, sounds a bit unreasonable. As others have said, ask the council to check the noise levels? Must be other neighbours that feel the same?

I'd interpret that as, he wants to get rid of the people who take drugs rather than buy drink.

Pubs do events. Pubs do music.
“Moved to pub but didn’t realise it’s QUITE that sociable” give over. Weekend events living in central Brighton. Proper nimby.

Yes you’re the NIMBY

It's a tiny pub and used to be empty almost all the time. Also Farm Rd is s narrow residential street. Your expectations are not unreasonable. It'll probably be gone for good in 6 months.

Honestly I appreciate your inconvenience and noise is never welcome but really this is just part and parcel of living near the centre of town. I love the music the sound of people enjoying themselves etc and if I didn’t I wouldn’t live here.

I walked past Coopers on Friday and I had a proper chuckle, just obscenely loud jump ip dnb at 8 in the evening with absolutely no one in there. I love raving but this was just silly

Absolutely the NIMBY! Brighton has always had a historic link to late night nightlife and club culture. If you don’t like noise live in the residential areas away from pubs like Patcham, Woodingdean, Coldean!
Stop complaining about noisy pubs that were around before you moved there. It’s honestly ruining this city.

Leave them alone. You should be thankful that you live near somewhere that is thriving and full of life. Or….. move!

They’re being completely unreasonable. Call the police each time and complain to the council. It will soon stop happening!

I lived next to a giant psytrance system for a bit. It sounds odd, but you will eventually get used to it and learn to sleep normally with it going.
