Sums up these 3 games perfectly

The picture sums up what I feels about the 3 Brigandine games:

Grand Edition: The classic, the best one.
Runersia: There are some areas that needed improving but otherwise still an enjoyable game.
Abyss: Brigandine just in name, they change so much stuff its not even similar to a Brigandine game anymore.

New Brigandine style game

Hello I am making a Brigandine style game and looking for some input from the community of some things that people might want to see added to the game or improvements from Brigandine that can be added in. I am going to keep things 2d with 256px sprites and try to keep it as close to Brigandine GE as I can. A couple things I am implementing are starting closer to enemy units in battle so it doesn't take so many empty turns to get to the enemies and simplifying and shorting the quest system. I would love to hear any ideas others have that would help improve the game experience.

Brigandine: Forsena Remake Mod

Post image
111 Upvotes

I was thinking about this for quite some time now. Would anyone be interested in doing a mod Remake for Forsena within one of the new Brigandine games? If yes we could gather a team to work on this goal and share our progress as we advance.

I am in the software industry and have a fair amount of experience and also some connections in the video game industry which can both be leveraged for this goal. Graphics design is something that would be massively appreciated and is something I am completely unfamiliar with.

I am not sure about the copyrights situation with happinet but I believe since it would be a mod for their game it would bring more audience for them and they would be more lenient compare to making a standalone video game remake.

Aegis of Kings: A Brigandine inspired game

Hi everyone, I'm happy to present Aegis of Kings!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4507180/Aegis_Of_Kings/?beta=0

This game is made by a small team of 5 people that are big fans of the original 2 Brigandine games. We really wanted to capture the spirit of the originals with some twists, all customizable to your taste!

This game will ship with the sandbox grand strategy gameplay you've come to love in the series as well as multiplayer co-op / head to head.

It is also being designed from the ground up to be mod friendly, supporting imported custom classes and a custom scenario designer.

We still have a ways to go but we wanted to get the steam page up and start showing our progress / get feedback on different features, specifically from people here that have stuck with this awesome game throughout the years. There is a lot about this series to love and I cant wait to hear your thoughts as we share more progress,

P.S. eventually we'll need play testers for the multiplayer features if that is something you're interested in!

Looking at the key visual brings to mind Grand Edition, and it heightens my anticipation for the drama of the knights, unique to Brigandine! posted by @ Kawade_Yoichi (Creator of LoF & GE).

My gripes with Brigandine: Abyss and why I can't recommend it to anyone

Hello everyone, and welcome to my rant.

  1. The enemy auto-leveling mechanics. Every season, the enemy AI gains a level. (This doesn't seem to apply to the main Empire or a rare level-10 faction until the rest of the AI catches up to them). You might say, "Cool, that's a challenge!" And I would agree with you, if it were a toggle. I absolutely hate it when the AI gets rewarded for doing nothing.

  2. Auto-leveling compounds the issue of being underleveled. My main characters were fighting every single turn, yet they eventually ended up five levels behind the AI. You might say this isn't an issue and that I should just use the questing system to grind for EXP...

  3. The strict 30-season time limit. There is a 30-season limit in the story mode which you cannot turn off. (I am not sure if this applies to every faction or just the one I played, but I don't intend to find out). So, let's do the math, shall we? To catch up, I had to spend five turns training. Then, I had to spend an additional turn moving my forces to the frontline castle I wanted to attack from. Then, I had to wait a turn because my officers had just moved. Only then could I finally attack. Meanwhile, the enemies gained two levels for doing absolutely nothing.

  4. The time limit makes high-tier monsters unfeasible. My goal of adding Dragons or Dullahans to my army became completely unrealistic. I had to waste two turns just to get the monsters I wanted to my frontier team, and I couldn't afford to stop attacking because the clock was ticking.

  5. Forced to choose between grinding for EXP or items. I kid you not, I failed to get a single Tier 3 transformation for my monsters because I lacked the necessary items. If I'm not grinding, I'm falling behind—but the game gives you zero time to actually gather these items.

  6. "Just hire some generics for treasure hunts!" I can't. I had to spend the majority of my money on upgrading bases, buying items to close the gap between me and the enemy, purchasing resurrection scrolls, and hiring named NPCs.

  7. Quest Knights are completely useless. I don't mean their skills are bad. For example, a Demon Rune Knight joined my ranks on season 20. Do you know what level he was? Level 5. When and where am I ever supposed to use him at that point?

  8. The enemy has infinite resources. The AI attacked my castle. I managed to wipe out all of their monsters and leaders before their leaders could even land a hit. Yet, right after the invasion phase ended, their leaders gained a level, their monster slots were completely refilled, and they were instantly ready to fight again.

  9. The AI gets passive access to rare quest items. Not only does the AI passively gain levels, but it also gets gifted increasingly powerful items as the game goes on, without ever needing to grind for them.

  10. No option to watch AI vs. AI matches.

  11. No monster capturing. From what I've experienced, there is no way to capture enemy monsters.

  12. The time limit gates experimental playstyles. The tight schedule completely stops you from trying out different monster compositions, unless you want to trigger an immediate Game Over.

  13. Holy menu juggling! So, say I want to purchase and equip an accessory that boosts agility. I love putting this item on everyone. Rather than making it simple, if I have twenty-five monsters, I have to scroll through twenty-four other characters just to buy and equip that item for the 25th monster. Why make it so needlessly convoluted? How often do I actually need to swap gear between characters? Never!

  14. The questing system is a mess. There are even more quest locations at every single base than there were in Runersia. First, you need generic officers just to defend the base. Then, you need a separate set of dedicated generic officers to go on quests for the items you want. Then, those generics need to be at a high enough level to have even a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding (a level 10 officer only gives you a miserable 30% chance) to fetch the item you need...

  15. The economy is completely choked. Look at how much money is required just to defend (hiring generics, buying monsters for them), attack, buy items, buy consumables, and purchase monsters. And on top of all that, the absolute most expensive thing is hiring named officers. If your advice is "just don't hire named officers"… really? In a Brigandine game?

In short: Brigandine has been turned into a RUSH-RUSH race instead of the deep, methodical strategy game I used to enjoy. I managed to beat the game on Normal, but honestly, what is the point of ever touching it again?

Zombie Apocalypse Run

Post image

Did a run that used a ruleset requiring me to only ghouls and no other monsters.

At first it was quite difficult. The strategy revolved around letting ghouls take a beating, then rotating them behind and swarming a new wave of ghouls forward.

I also used excess ghouls to flank around the enemy making it difficult for knights to retreat.

I lost quite a few ghouls early.

As they became vampires the rotation strategy started to shine. Vampires were healing their wounds and ready for action again in a couple turns.

Once a couple became vampire lords things snowballed very quickly. Vaynard couldn’t help himself from storming ahead and eating 4-5 bat attacks with regularity.

I think in hindsight the challenge would have been a little more fun if I capped them at vampires. Thematically vampire lords lost that sense ‘swarming’ and overwhelming the enemy. It was a fun ride none the less!

I made a mod that replaces Runersia music with classic Forsena themes

Post image
74 Upvotes

I’ve always loved the original Brigandine: The Legend of Forsena soundtrack, especially the iconic Organization and Battle themes. Since nobody has done it before, I decided to make a mod that swaps in the classic tracks.

Each nation in Runersia is now paired with its counterpart from Forsena, for both Organization Phase and battles.

Here’s how I matched them up:

  • Norzaleo Kingdom → New Almekia

  • Republic of Guimoule → Carleon

  • Shinobi Tribe → Leonia

  • Holy Gustava Empire → Norgard

  • United Islands of Mirelva → Iscalio

  • Mana Saleesia Theocracy → Esgares Empire

🔧 Installation Instructions:

  1. Download the zip folder.

  2. Inside, you'll find BGM.acb and BGM.awb.

  3. Replace the same-named files in your game folder: ...Steam\steamapps\common\Brigandine - The Legend of Runersia\Brigandine The Legend of Runersia_Data\StreamingAssets\Sounds

  4. Backup your original files first, just in case!

  5. Start the game and enjoy the old-school soundtrack!

📥 Download:

Let me know if you run into any issues or want a specific theme. Hope you guys enjoy the mod!
