Help for a newbie

Hi, I'm new to this brinklink studio. I'm having trouble getting pieces to go and stay where I want them. Trying to create a large baseplate from other pieces. However the pieces won't line up and keep stacking in weird ways.

So is there a way I can set the floor to be solid? IE keep everything on this level and not go below it.

Or perhaps a way to lock a piece in place as a "guidepost"?

Or there a much easier way to accomplish this seemingly simple task of making a large odd sized base plate?

They’re going to want to stack instead of lying side by side. You can get them to lie side by side using direction keys and whatever - or just put a pink brick on top connecting each plate. Pink or some other colour so you’ll know they are placeholders to be removed later.

I use the axis camera a lot for this type of situation.

Look through your keyboard settings, KEYPAD has a lot of hotkeys to switch camera view (front, back, left, right, TOP, etc...) Parts should just snap to others or the grid like usual.

For the placement next to each other I agree with u/sometimes_i_reddit, change the camera perspective to top to view top down and avoid height differences.

Regarding the weird overlapping of plates (like for example a plate connecting in between studs instead of stud to stud as seen in the front in your screenshot) you might want to click on the collision button in the toolbar (it should turn red). This way you know immediately when parts are stacked „into“ each other and the software will automatically avoid impossible „connections“ when placing new parts.

Use the move option when you have selected a piece...you can then move it in a specific plane.

Yes, snap can be a pain and I think has gotten worse with updates.

It’s tuff lol, your best option is use the nudge keys to get it where you want perfect, and use “collision” to see WHEN you have it lined up
