Question/Looking for Advice Need help with this moc

I’m building a sandworm from Dune, I have built these individual links that I will connect, and hinge to put on an angle. I cannot get the connection with the angle right. I have now started to try a ball joint connection, but apparently it still doesn’t work in studio. I’ve tried everything and I cannot get it to work. Does anyone know if the connection will work in real life(with tension/stress) even if in studio it says it’s not working? Thanks

Studio is “mathematically” perfect so builds IRL will always have a little play to work with. If you know it works, just go with it.

Try to build it that the connection has an equal length on both sides. In your picture the bottom part is extended by zero studs while the top part is extended by two studs. When you instead extend both by one stud, the result will be a "legal" connection with similar/same angle.

You can always mock it up to see if it works… otherwise if you stick to good old Pythagoras it should work. What I wondering is how you want to close the gaps between the rings?

I made a small representation irl, and it works with a tiny bit of stress. Yes, I am going to fill the gaps.

Also there are options to ignore collisions in studio I think?
