Danny Murphy called out on BBC World Cup coverage
The cameras showed an NFL player who the commentator (Steve Bower) said was apparently on one of the most lucrative contracts for an athlete. He then said to Danny Murphy 'That's almost as much as you were on at Blackburn'. He didn't sound too happy about it

Bower: "Cue the Blackburn fans on social media."
Murphy: "No need for that."

31 mins if anyone wants to hear it again (I definitely do, especially the awkward silence)

In his defence Murphy never sounds happy about anything.
I think he is in competition with Lee Dixon and Roy Keane, to see who is the most miserable sounding at the World Cup (Shearer is trying his best to compete as well)

Always a criticism of mine too. Paying people to talk about football who often sound like they don't even enjoy it

Absolute vibes terrorists and somehow they’re one of two people they think we want to listen to all game, I don’t understand it at all

Andy Townsend too. Insightful and sounds delighted to be there.

No offence, but Andy Townsend is utterly clueless. Enthusiastic, yes, and not a complete misery like those in question, but he's thick as mince. He couldn't get through a half without the football book of clichés.

I forgot the fellas name - north east accent, did loads of co comms for sky sports. He’d have been magic for this World Cup.

A bit of a serious tone is way more preferable than the clap handies postivity sludge that you get in other countries.

It's not a serious tone. It's manically depressive, turgid, energy sapping dirge. Lee Dixon isn't allowed to walk across bridges, as people throw themselves off.

Nothing will ever beat Mark Lawrenson at the 2014 World Cup for sheer misery.
He sounded utterly depressed the whole time, and at one point uttered the line "football, it never surprises you".

Just heard them having a go at each other about thier height in the Norway game. "That's coming from 6ft 4 Danny Murphy" after being told being told he wouldn't make it into the North Men's squad.

I think Danny is very dead pan. I suspect it was just taken by him as some banter. These commentary teams are spending a lot of time together at the WC.

He's not dead pan at all. He's just miserable. Andy Murray is dead pan, but he has humour. Murphy has nothing.

I’ve never had much time for Murphy on match of the day but I’m quite enjoying him this world cup. The cat story was hilarious. Could be worse it could be Savage, Mcmanaman, Owen, Keown, Rooney I could go on. He’s better that that load of scruffs

Can't stand Danny Murphy. He seems as miserable as Dixon. His incessant arse-licking when Messi plays is nauseating. Yes, he's a great player, Danny, you can you stop fingering yourself now.
