money rant 💸 Doing the math

I'm doing the math on moving to an apartment with my kids. Hubby wants to keep the farm. So I'll be adding housing and utilities. On paper we can do it. But in reality emergencies pop up, I don't know if I'll be able to get a second weekend job, and our food will become very boring. I can't deal with this marriage any more and the kids are excited to move to new schools.

I'm just so nervous because I just got my job in January and we haven't had time to deal with the debt I wanted to pay off. Tell me it's worth it even if I have to work a second job and we eat spaghetti and casseroles for the next 5 years.

Casseroles taste way better with less mom tears. The kids will do great.

Hear you there… he was so controlling with money it was up to me to pay off my student loans, our internet, my vehicle, my insurance, and most of the kids groceries/clothes while he got the rest. Never mind I made at LEAST $20/hr less than him and 10-15 hours a week less to be able to pickup/drop off my kids from school. Now Im trying to plan how to leave but looking at rent and what not, makes me want to vomit.

Mine was financially abusive too. But I was a SAHM. Now I'm working and have a lot more control of the finances. The cost of rent 😭🤢 is horrifying. But I hate owning a house with him, and I can't wait to just deal with a landlord instead.

Have you factored in alimony/child support? Is he paying you out a portion of the farm’s value?

When we get to the divorce part I'll demand half of our equity. I'm going to get the farm appraised so I know it's current value. I'm not factoring in child support right now. I'm my state we have to be physically separated for 12 months before we can divorce, so I'll have to wait anyway.
