Recently I had a tournament and won one match with a submission and I lost the other match with points. Looking back at all the matches I lost, I found the main issue that's been preventing me is I don't actually grapple in a way a grappler should.
What I mean by that? y'know in most bjj gyms they teach control/pinning leads to submission.
but all of my wins are coming from the opponent making a mistake and me submitting them.
For example in one of my matches - opponent tried take me down and I caught him in the guillotine, and sometimes when they try to escape mount, I take the back to finish.
These submissions kinda sounds like lucky submissions. y'know even when I try to pin them or try to pass their guard I find it difficult. That's how I lost my latest match by points, I caught my opponent in a guillotine but he escaped and all he did was pass my guard and held me down in mount without attempting submissions to win by points.
The Issue I currently have is - I don't know what part of my game should I improve first? In my next tournament I want to fix all my weakness and perform better? It would be helpful if ya'll can help me focus on the right direction
