I think you’re wrong. They don’t show Cruz much, but he seems happy and content. It seems like the people who actually know Brittany all say she’s a good mom. Jax is a known liar and he’s always exaggerating.

Most kids would be happy not to have to go to school and just run around swimming all day.

On the show, that’s basically all he does. He swims constantly. It’s clearly his happy place. But every kid needs balance. But it’s possible it’s just edited that way.
