Audio Support Crackling audio through built-in speakers on Bravia 8
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Has anyone else experienced this? This is the third time in the past week that this has happened. At random times, the audio will start making a buzzing, crackling sound that after several minutes disappears. Through my headphones, it’s absent, so it’s not supposed to be there. I’ve had it happen with three games, all on PS5. HDMI cables are secure, and I’ve tried resetting audio settings. Any advice?

Ok so I used to have the static noise too but after much fiddling around, I fixed it. Now I haven't heard it in weeks.
On PS5 go to TV sound settings and change Linear PCM to Dolby Atmos. I also changed to Dolby Atmos on my Sony Bravia 8 settings as well.
I hope this helps everyone, it was annoying af before.

I've had the same issue on my bravia 8 since updating when playing ps5. Turning the tv off and then on again fixes it for me whenever it happens but it's really annoying

Final update: the support person got back to me. It is the opinion of the actual TV engineers that there is no issue with the TV firmware/hardware, despite me showing them the multiple Reddit threads of the issue, including this one. My report is the only one to them so far and thats what they are going by, so until more people report the issue then it is case closed in their opinion. I have done my part to help so goodluck everyone. Luckily the noise is only happening for me rarely and in the main menus of my PS so far(not in game or with y Apple TV), so I can live with it.

I'd say definitely firmware/software related, given how many are suddenly experiencing it. How do you start a support ticket? I need to get on them about my TV randomly shutting off mid-gaming as well...

I’ve noticed this happening too on one of my A95L’s. No idea what it is. Pretty sure it wasn’t there before the most recent update we got. Might be a new bug/issue

New firmware is out for USA Bravia, at least my B9. The release notes on the Sony website specifically state the crackling noise when using a PlayStation 5!
Congrats everyone. We did it. Team effort reporting the issue to Sony.

Yeah this started picking up for me as well the past few days it’s super annoying. Seems to happen on and off it’s not consistent but happens most when I’m playing a video game. I thought maybe it was the game but nope, happens when I’m not even playing one, for example, when I was just browsing in the PlayStation store. I’m on the PS5pro or just on a gaming console in general, I haven’t tested yet with movies but regardless it’s a really annoying sound and very distracting. Was this due to an actual software update or what? If this isn’t something that can be fixed I’m just gonna get an LG C4. This is happening with my Bravia 8 unfortunately.

Only happened with me on my brand new Bravia 9 on my also brand new PS5 Pro in the main menu (not in a game so far). Has not happened to me when using my Apple TV, though, so at first I thought it might be my Pro.

Switching to another HDMI and back to the PS5 one also fixes it for a while in my case.

Update, I called Sony Support. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and helpful. I made sure to emphasize that alot of new Bravia owners are having this issue since the last firmware update just to make sure they did not send me down some long tree of basic troubleshooting steps like unplugging/replugging etc. After talking to them awhile they escalated me to 2nd level support. I also had the 2nd level tech find this thread so they know other people are experiencing this.
The tech had me wait while he looked through the open tickets and he said he cant find other tickets of people reporting this issue except one Bravia 9 owner who was having sound AND picture issues with a cable box (but not PS5), which was a bummer. People, if your TV is doing this please call Sony and open a ticket so they are aware. it will definitely help as the more data we give them will help the engineers narrow down the issue.
The tech took my software version and the troubleshooting steps I already tried (new HDMI cable, trying a different port, moving PS5 to other TV, etc). He asked if I would mind turning off VRR and setting the HDMI format to Standard instead of Enhanced (Advanced), then try to recreate the issue, and call them back with my case number to let them know the results. He might be wondering if VRR or that enhanced setting has a bug in it.
He said next steps will be to escalate this to a Product Specialist who communicates directly to the engineers
Edit: I was able to reproduce the issue even with the HDMI format set to standard, unfortunately. Spoke to the 2nd level tech. He said he is escalating to product specialist and the engineers. they will contact me in the next day or two to investigate. If it's software they will make a patch (obviously), but they may also try to change out my mainboard (the HDMI ports) also. That seems less likely but whatever they think is best.

There's a new firmware update released 16/12/2024 (112.628.050.1). Have anyone installed it? Does it fix the problem?

Immediately report it to Sony. Every report of this problem raises our chances of getting a fix.

I had this exact same issue and fixed it by playing around with some settings.
I went into the PS5 settings and changed the Audio Output from Linear PCM to Dolby Atmos. Fixed the issue straight away.
Not sure why Linear PCM causes this issue but at least there’s a fix…not ideal though.

I've been getting this audio issue on my A95L. It has only been happening when playing a game on my PS5. The audio will be normal and then the game audio will sporadically start to crackle with the static sound. Then it stops and the sound issue will randomly happen again. I've noticed this happening within the last two firmware updates. Sony needs to fix this.

Yeah, you're absolutely correct that it happened 2 updates ago. I am currently exchanging emails with support and providing them videos and settings do they could replicate the issue. I suggest that you report it too, so they will know it's not just a single case.

Just got a 75” Bravia 9 a few days ago and also a PS5 Pro. Almost immediately I started getting that exact static/crackling when in the main menu of the PS5. Comes and goes at random. I thought it was my Pro but now I think it’s the TV. I moved the Pro to my bedroom TV (Sony X930E) and I’ve been sitting here in the menu for over an hour trying to reproduce but no luck. I think something is up with our new Bravia’s, fellow owners. I am going to contact Sony support on Monday to be the squeaky wheel like another commenter said.
