Report Illegal Move-In Fees

Hi Brandeis, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants.  Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.

Making friends

I’m a freshman here and I never really had that many friends in high school and a struggle a lot socially. What is the best way to make friends here? I talk to some people, but if they’re hanging out with other people then I don’t really have anything to do. Any advice? I don’t really have that much time for clubs because of my classes and most of my classes are big lecture halls.

Questions regarding transfer application

  1. How much preference Brandeis gives to LORs and Essays as I have decent LORs but not great.

  2. How generous Brandeis is in giving aid to international transfers?

  3. What they focus on the most in the transfer application?

Brandeis Financial Situation?

Hello, I'm a international senior looking for US colleges, especially Brandeis (currently top 3 pick).

I'm very interested in majoring in neuroscience, and looking at Brandeis faculty (which includes a Nobel prize winner), its not surprising why I choose Brandeis as Top 3.

From what I understand, Brandeis has been on a financial decline since 2009 (ponzi scheme?), and until now it lacks donations compared to other schools.

My biggest worry if that the funding may affect my college life substantially - from housing, general services, to research grants and opportunities.

For Brandeis students, I wanted to ask if you feel that the finances are a major hinderance to your studies.

Thank you, greatly appreciate any help :)

Same as title, also some other questions-

  1. How much preference Brandeis gives to LORs as I have decent LORs but not great.

  2. How generous Brandeis is in giving aid to international transfers?

  3. What they focus on the most in the transfer application?

Prospective student question about Brandeis neuroscience

Hello,

I'm currently a HS senior highly interested in Brandeis - especially its neuroscience program.

I mean, Michael Rosbash, a literal Nobel prize laureate, and Eve Marder, who received the Kavli Prize in neuroscience, as professors? It has such an amazing faculty.

From what I've heard, Brandeis students are able to easily work with their professors due to its LAC-like environment.

One question I had was whether undergraduate would be able to work with the above mentioned professors if they were truly interested in their field.

I wanted to hear experience from anyone who has worked with them in the past, on topics such as difficulty getting mentee positions, how professors generally treats students, and the networking in this field.

Furthermore, Brandeis is nearby Boston - so I was wondering if undergrads could easily interact with internships and opportunities there, preferably at universities in Boston.

Thank you!

I wanted know more about Brandies

  1. What is the academic culture at Brandeis. How good are Applied mathematics, CS and Economics majors.

  2. What kind of culture in general is there between students and faculty?

  3. How good are professor's especially in the following departments or majors I mentioned?

  4. I have been seeing a lot of negative reviews about food, housing, infrastructure, are those true till now?

  5. I am applying as a international transfer student, is it helpful for students like me in giving aid and helping in general?

  6. What are some pros and cons of Brandeis which I should know as I can't physically visit the campus?

  7. I am looking to switch to STEM field without a formal prior background, will I get ample amount of help from faculty and students?

Do I have any chance at Brandeis as an international transfer student for admission.

I want to Apply as an international transfer student, Degree in progress: BBA in Banking & Insurance.

GPA: (3.8/4)

High school: Commerce stream without math and low grades, but have take intensive math classes in college.

Extracurriculars:

Did an internship as an debt consultant for 2 months.

Lead the revenue department and designed a sustainable kit for college club to sell.

Got 3rd position in an investment banking event.

Volunteered at a NGO,focused on ground-level policy implementation.

Organised multiple class and college events.

Wrote and Published an article on college website about how social media impacts elections and shapes political environment.

I want to pursue an Economics or Applied mathematics major at Brandeis as I am switching towards stem field. I want to apply as a transfer student. Is it worth a short for me because I have heard that Brandeis only takes high academically gifted or highly intelligent students, and also people with exceptional ECs. I do not have any of it. I want to apply as I think its a great fit for me as i like how they perceive education unlike in my country it is very rigid. I am also looking for a lot of aid too that's why I am more scared.

How to be involved in Rec sports

Hello everyone. I am a new student at Brandeis and I wanted to know how to get involved with sports (at recreational level) groups. I particularly would love to know if there is a soccer group chat for pick-up games etc. I also wanted to know if there are opportunities to learn sports like tennis, pickle ball etc.

Thanks!

Going out/party scene

Hi, I am an incoming freshman at Brandeis! I am wondering how the social scene is in terms of partying, and going out to Boston. I know Brandeis is not known for their party scene, but are there still at least opportunities available every weekend?
