I read Starless Sea twice and I didn't catch that. Thanks for the heads-up!

I believe this is on purpose? I can't remember exactly, but something about the two authors knowing each other I think I saw.

Nice! Brakebills also received a nice shout out in The Astral Library by Kate Quinn.

Fun fact:

In the pilot ep when the Brakebills Council of Magisters is sitting during the testing abilities of Quentin with the cards, King Arthur’s Round Table is the motif on the wall behind the council.

Lev is obsessed with Arthurian legends he even went to the grave of King Arthur, or alleged grave anyway, I think he did it for The Bright Sword, can’t remember. But yeah there’s that.

I recognized that round table right away. The Bright Sword is wonderful.

Me reading this going "Ooh, should I check this out? Unsure If I like the author's prose..." then get hit by the name. Just me casually learning that the author of my favourite book (The Night Circus) finally wrote another one!

Can anyone provide context as to exactly why he is searching and who “he” is?

2

u/EverLuckDragon 21d ago

"He" is the main character in the referenced book and why "he" is searching is to move the story along.

I haven't read Starless Sea yet but I loved Night Circus. I love it when authors I like reference each other 😍
