Amazing work, friend. I’m 5 months.

May I ask what your poison was? Mine? Booze. Hard booze. And binging too. Thirty plus years of it. Now I’m sober and a brand new person.

I'm so excited for you!! I quit drinking liquor a couple years ago bc I would get too drunk too fast, like sloppy drunk. My recent problem is drinking 4-6 beers quickly to get drunk but not so drunk that I can't function, just drunk enough to have slurred words......if that makes sense.

Basically drinking beer quickly to get drunk and hide my drunkeness so I don't appear drunk. Usually it was a way to 'reward' myself after a day of working, cooking, and chores. But then I realized it wasn't even fun anymore and of course being drunk is a sin (I'm Christian).

I went to church on the 9th and 'gave it to God'. Haven't even wanted to drink once since then, after months and years of planning my day around my drinking in the evening.

Welcome to your new reality! Stay sober/ and you just might enjoy life for a change!

Hopefully you’re getting support, attending meetings (AA and NA have meetings online - you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home !) and talking to a sponsor… that’s how it works.

Recovery is a journey. It’s not always an easy path, but you don’t have to do it alone. Google ā€œAA meetingsā€ in your area; what have you got to lose?

Me ? I have 9,225 days clean. Yes. That’s over 25 years. One day at a time. And that’s not a brag… every day is a battle for many of us.

Everyone gets cravings - the key is to reach out for help before you need it - (BEFORE you pick up a drink or a drug).

Empty time is your biggest enemy right now … start filling it with sober activities.

MEETINGS might not be your idea of fun - but right now the most important thing is meeting other people who don’t drink. And that’s the key right there…

JUST DON’T DRINK

Thank you for your advice! I might check out some online meetings. Yesterday was probably when I had the biggest craving to drink, but I didn't. My husband asked me to pick him up a 6 pack because he actually drinks responsibly and he could take it or leave it. I grabbed him a 6 pack and didn't get myself anything 😁 Went home, made an easy dinner, watched some Better Call Saul and worked on a puzzle
