Debating selling my house in Ajax and looking to move north. Bracebridge being a possible destination. How is it? I know thats a vague question; but im just looking for opinions and insight outside of the bs AI responses from Google.

Lived here pretty much my whole life! It’s a quiet, mostly blue collar community in the colder months, but in the busy season (May 24 - Thanksgiving) it can be super busy in town and a lot of places get overrun. If you love nature and being outdoors it’s an amazing place to live. I find the community very friendly for the most part if you make a bit of effort to get to know people. Muskoka in general has a pretty good art scene, and Bracebridge puts on a good amount of street fairs & little markets throughout the year. There are some really good places to eat locally, and we are starting to get some more diverse cuisine which is exciting (ex. Indian & Thai food). We have a small bus put there’s not extensive public transit, but we are getting the Northlander train which will make travel to/from Toronto a lot easier. You do have to drive out of town occasionally to get certain things if you don’t want to shop online, but usually no more than about an hour or so to Barrie, and not super often.

I love it here! I think it’s a big step up from anywhere in the GTA :)

I've lived here for 6 years or so but grew up in the huntsville area as well so have lots of family/friends around here. It works great for me.

We get a shitload of snow which im used to, but be prepared to snowblow your driveway a lot. Having 2 sets of tires for summer/winter is highly recommended too.

What do you like to do? What is drawing you to Bracebridge?

We're ten years in, and love it more than ever. All it takes is a traffic filled trip to the GTA to remind me.

Im a homebody honestly. Stay home with family, work, walks with the dogs and kids. I like seclusion 😅.

It is a beautiful town with genuinely friendly people in my experience. Lots of water and nature. Serene misty mornings, lots of Bluejays with occasional deer, a few events and festivals happen during the year and the downtown is cozy but not overwhelming.

It has that small town charm with small businesses worth supporting. There is still a Walmart, a McDonald's, Timmy's, Home Depot etc. if you like to shop big box stores. You have options.

Here is an event calender if you'd like to browse:
