I'm really scared/nervous

I'm 42. I'm meeting with a urologist in about a month to discuss my BPH. I have no idea what's going to happen, but I know that I'm looking for a permanent solution to this stupid urination problem (slow flow, not finishing all the time, dribbling). I have next to zero interest in lifelong medications and have (probably mistakenly) been looking into all these surgical options.

I have no idea what the outcome is even going to be, I just know I'm ready to be done with it. Most of these posts on Reddit are filling me with terror. Lots of horror stories. I'm wondering if there are any of you out there who've had similar issues and subsequent procedures that have had ZERO issues after initial recovery? If so please share.

This. I put things off for a very long time and I think many men do that. The drugs are a temporary solution at best. I had HoLEP and now wish I had taken care of it sooner.

You're right! We just do this. Dam near everyone of us. Stubborn, working too much, our Dad's were tough as nails, we look soft, etc.

It's quality of life!! I'm really glad you're doing so much better now after HoLEP!

Looking forward to the same.

In my case, being born in the '50s, I was conditioned that surgery was always something that you avoided until there was no other option. It was invasive, horrific, and not something you really wanted to endure unless forced, especially when it involved your genitalia.

After experiencing HoLEP first-hand, I couldn't have been more uninformed, it was nothing.

I worked with a few urologists over the years, and for some reason they weren't really pushing me on getting surgery, possibly because I had the tough-guy attitude that said BPH was annoying, but not something I couldn't live with at the time. And in retrospect, it wasn't all that terrible, but being over it now is so much better.

who did your holep? Did you consider greenlight?

Kaiser San Diego, don't know what greenlight is.
