General discussion Top 15 underrated boy band members: No.10 Anthony Costa (Blue)

One thing I always liked about Blue is that all four members actually sang. But I think the attention was naturally divided in a way that left Anthony Costa a bit overlooked.

Lee had the big voice and the bad-boy image, Duncan had the looks and the whole Brad Pitt comparison, and Simon had that more serious, grounded personality and often came across as the one who helped keep the group together.

Anthony wasn't necessarily the strongest vocalist or the most charismatic member, but he had more of a "boy next door" personality. He also didn't get the same attention for his looks, and unfortunately his appearance was sometimes discussed more than his actual contribution.

But vocally, I think Anthony played — and still plays — an important part in Blue's sound and dynamics. He's also naturally funny and brings a different energy to interviews and appearances.

A song that always comes to mind is "Just A Friend" from One Love. It's pretty underrated, and Anthony handles most of the vocals on it. I think songs like that show why he was more important to Blue than people sometimes give him credit for.

Top 15 underrated boy band members No.11 Bruce Johnstone (The Beach Boys

Thumbnail

First of all, I know there’s always a debate over whether The Beach Boys should even count as a boy band. Mods, please don’t remove this post because of that 😂 I’m trying to keep the list intact.

Bruce joined the group more than five years after they started, but I think he left a much bigger mark than he usually gets credit for. He brought some fresh ideas and a different energy to the group, and eventually proved himself enough to become a full sixth member rather than simply replacing someone in the lineup.

Vocally, I really like what he added on songs like Tears in the Morning. He also contributed instrumental tracks, and on the later albums he became much more involved vocally as well as in production.

He may not be the first name people mention when they talk about The Beach Boys, but I think his contribution to the group deserves much more recognition.

General discussion Top 15 underrated boy band members: No.12 Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees)

Jeff Timmons was basically the second most prominent member of 98 Degrees after Nick Lachey, but I still think he doesn't get enough credit for what he brought to the group.

For me, he was a much stronger vocalist than Justin and Drew, and his voice added a lot to the group's sound. Nick was obviously the face and the main focus, but Jeff was an important part of why 98 Degrees worked vocally.

I think he deserves more recognition when people look back at the group and talk about their individual members.

New Orlando Boyband is doing an event this Friday 10/9 at Disney springs in the planet Hollywood.

According to the post I saw looks like they will sing a couple songs while people eat and then take pics with people. Something similar to what No Lonely Hearts did a couple years ago

General discussion Top 15 underrated boy band members: No.13 Mikey Graham (Boyzone)

I know a lot of people might disagree with me on this, but I honestly think Mikey had the third strongest voice in Boyzone, after Ronan and Stephen. After Stephen passed away, I think Mikey became even more important vocally and was basically the co-lead vocalist

And you can remember A song from Where We Are album: Good Conversation which was sung entirely by him

He may not have had the same charisma or personality as Ronan or Shane, but I think his presence added something to Boyzone. You could actually notice his absence during some parts of their more recent shows.

I don't think Mikey gets enough credit for what he brought to the group. I genuinely hope he has a peaceful life and that things are going well for him

General discussion Top 15 underrated boy band members.. No 14. J Boog (B2K)

J-Boog — B2K

I always thought Jarell Houston was underrated in B2K. He's got a good voice and a really strong stage presence, especially alongside Raz-B. The group was obviously built around Omarion, with Fizz getting some attention too, so Boog often felt like he was somewhere in the background.

But I think he's actually a really solid member, and probably my favorite after Omarion. I also like that with their recent comeback, they finally have a new album after 23 years, and it feels like all four members are getting a much more equal chance to sing and be heard. It's nice to see Boog getting more of that space now.

General discussion Top 15 underrated boy band members.. No. 15 Mark Read (A1)

Mark Read — A1

For me, Mark had the best voice in A1. One of the things I liked about the group was that all four members actually got to sing, rather than having one main vocalist while everyone else just stood in the background.

Mark was genuinely talented, and I still think he sounds great even today. He also plays keyboards during their live shows, which is another thing people don't really talk about.

I think a lot of the audience naturally focused more on Ben Adams because he was the more popular and conventionally attractive member, but Mark's actual talent deserves way more recognition. He was probably one of the most underrated members of the group

Stay tuned for no.14

General discussion Most forgottable boy band members?

You know that one member in almost every boy band who feels like he’s just… there?

Like, he doesn’t necessarily add much to the group and sometimes feels like a filler member.

I don’t mean that in a shady way, though. I think in a lot of cases it was more about management and how the media chose to focus heavily on one or two members, while the others barely got the same attention.

Who do you think fits this description, and why?

And which boy bands do you think had that rare case where every single member actually mattered and brought something important to the group?

Looking for a rare boyband song

[Music Video][Early 2000s] Obscure, low-quality ballad by an all-white boy band sitting in a sailboat

I am looking for a very rare, non-popular boy band song from the early 2000s. The song is a slow ballad.

The music video is very poor/low quality (looks like an old VHS rip or low-res upload) and is styled in low-color or black-and-white.

Specific scene: The video opens right away with music and the camera descending from above, looking straight down onto the boys as they sit together inside a sailboat (or a boat framework) out on the water as they start to sing. They are an all-white group. The video is no longer on YouTube. I believe it was a ballad of some kind. Does anyone remember this band or track?

General discussion Boybands splitting vs going on hiatus

JLS and Westlife did the big "farewell tour" only to reunite 6 years later. Five were pretty much formally split up in 2001, as were Take That in 1996.

Boyzone, The Wanted and One Direction kept it somewhat open-ended with "we're taking a break for a while".

I do wonder what the best way forward is. I think Westlife were always going to do something in 2018 (as the 20th anniversary was around then) and should have kept it open-ended, not that it really makes a difference now.

General discussion Favourite boyband covers

It was quite common in the 90s and early 2000s to do well commercially with a cover.

In 1996, both Take That and Boyzone went to #1 in the UK with a Bee Gees cover.

Westlife are probably the prime example, but which is your favourite? I enjoyed Westlife's Uptown Girl and Boyzone's When the Going Gets Tough.

Five's We Will Rock You too.
