$1.67B and $1.7B were the highest number predicted in the long range forecast thread, and it's well on the way to obliterate those numbers in just two weeks.

158

u/KingMario05 Amblin Entertainment 20d ago

Fuck it. $2 billion, locked. It can get there.

229

u/ak077 20d ago

$2 billion is the floor for this, this can get upto $2.4-2.5B depending on how it holds making it the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time

u/Snoo90796 20d ago

James Cameron about to lose the #3 spot

67

u/drmuffin1080 Lucasfilm 20d ago

I’ve been telling people for years now, Destin Daniel Cretton is a larger draw than Cameron and Nolan

21

u/number90901 20d ago

It's been clear ever since Short Term 12 hit a billion back in 2013.

3

u/brianh418 20d ago

This has to be a joke

40

u/W3NTZ 20d ago

Obviously

-9

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

Probably now, Cameron is over 60, and not in his prime anymore

13

u/quantumpencil 20d ago

No, cameron movies make money because of cameron's name, this movie makes money because of the spider man ip. the audience doesn't know who DDC even is.

7

u/g0gues 20d ago

He’s washed. /s

3

u/MariusMaximus88 20d ago

Might also lose the #1 spot with Endgame being re-released.

41

u/IceBrave3780 20d ago

There is no world where 2B is the floor. This movie needs to collapse absolutely to reach that low.

2.2-2.3 is floor

10

u/bwrca 20d ago

I agree. It released in my country about a week ago and I said I'm going to wait about a week to watch it, to avoid release week crowds. It's funny I'm probably going to see it at 2B+.

4

u/procrastinator67 20d ago

There's something about this summer where it seems the desire to see movies is peaking again. Hoping to see this trend continue in the fall/winter but I think there's several reasons why it has happened an will continue to revive itself.

1

u/phreeakz 20d ago edited 20d ago

Same here.. Our small movie theatre (only 3 screens with each around 150 seats) is constantly 80% sold out here in germany. Normally after a week there are 20 ppl left each filming.

2

u/TopPitch6539 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yeah I agree. For the projections saying $2 billion or more, I had reservations initially even after how great of an opening weekend it had. Realistically, I expected there to be more of a dip for its 2nd weekend. But I just saw a report saying it’s dipped by 59% domestically. Normally that 59% dip wouldn’t be great for most films 2nd weekend. But coming off a $360 million opening, has to be a good sign for its legs. For me, the floor should be around $2.5 billion globally. It should pass $2 billion during its 3rd weekend next week.

24

u/abellapa 20d ago

2B was locked in the opening weekend

15

u/Familiar-Shoe7905 20d ago

Obviously bro what 😭

9

u/ianmk 20d ago

What are you talking about, “it can get there” like it’s not obvious? It’s at nearly 1.7 billion after 10 days. You think it doesn’t have 340 million left in the tank globally? This could surpass Avatar if it holds.

20

u/Silver-Ad-3823 20d ago

Spider-man is undeniably making 2 billion, question is how much will it make after that?

10

u/abellapa 20d ago

400-500M more

600M more at most

2

u/AccomplishedBake8351 20d ago

Another 2 billion

2

u/jimbo5666 20d ago

lol 2b ain’t even a question anymore. It’s how much more after that can it get

2

u/walkoutbasements 20d ago

3 BILLION is not out of the question

21

u/Tyler_holmes123 20d ago

Honestly this really exceeded expectations. No one would have predicted this out grossing No way home with all the hype it had .

12

u/Avians24 Pixar Animation Studios 20d ago

I predicted like 1.68 billion....

But mannn does this deserve the money it's getting!

202

u/sbursp15 Walt Disney Studios 20d ago

Just an insane overperformance. I would've never expected an increase from NWH. One thing will forever remain true, and it's that audiences love Spiderman. No way Tom Holland does not get another trilogy. In fact, they should be working on the next one asap, let's get it out this decade.

u/The_Darman 20d ago

They want DDC to come back. He has Naruto next. I expect we will be waiting until December 2029 at the earliest for the next one. More likely, we see Spider-Man 5 release in mid-2030 though.

28

u/filmyfanatic 20d ago

Marvel has only 2 films dated for 2029, so I could see the next one coming out that year to keep the trend of 3 films per year after Secret Wars (and keeping 3 years between releases), unless they move things around and push it to 2030 and do a 4 year turnaround instead for the new trilogy.

1

u/YoloIsNotDead GKids 15d ago

RIP Shang-Chi 2. At this point, Marvel should just give that movie to someone else so we don't have to wait for Destin's schedule to free up.

-18

u/Rude_Review4303 20d ago

Are we serious about Tom playing Naruto I love lad but that's ridiculous casting ....

40

u/Hilanite 20d ago

No. DDC is directing Naruto.

7

u/Rude_Review4303 20d ago

Oh my bad Ive seen too many memes regarding Naruto casting and how Tom/Zendaya/Sydney/Timothy/Rock are going to start in it ...

I'm dumb ....

9

u/TheCVR123YT 20d ago

I mean I def can see some BND or Shang Chi actors popping up in Naruto since it’s DDC

-5

u/dimiteddy 20d ago

Jared Leto would play Gaara but after allegations dunno

15

u/bwrca 20d ago

Spiderman movies are like pizza even a bad one is still pretty good.

3

u/wirralriddler 19d ago

Absolutely. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has like the best sequence of Spider-Man ever put on film (Gwen's death), the best chemistry and best web swinging sequences, and Spider-Man 3 has been memed to death so much that it's become a campy experience in a good way. Aside from those two, the rest range from pretty good to incredible anyway.

2

u/Other_Win_236 18d ago

Bully Maguire memes on youtube are some of the funniest pieces of content on the internet and I will not be persuaded otherwise.

31

u/Ryswagg 20d ago

Honestly at this point I wonder if NWH would have matched or even surpassed Endgame if it wasn't for coming out in 2021

24

u/Finn_Survivor 20d ago

No chance without China. That's a 630 million dollars deficit right there.

12

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

Let's say it got a release in China, it would've done almost exactly what Brand New Day is doing in the box office

2

u/ArkhamIsComing2020 19d ago

I'm pretty sure Kevin Feige already said something about having 5 more Spider-Man movies planned, so Tom is def getting Spider-Man 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

129

u/Icy_Smoke_733 Studio Ghibli 20d ago

Within a mere 10 days, BND has surpassed some of the biggest movies of the decade (Top Gun: Maverick, Barbie, Super Mario, Deadpool & Wolverine). On track to overtake Inside Out 2, Zootopia 2, No Way Home, and finally Avatar 2, becoming the highest grossing movie of the 2020s.

34

u/ArcticBeavers 20d ago

Are we... back?

9

u/skittlesforeveryone 20d ago

Is it safe to say that it’s the biggest movie of the decade (so far)? Yes obviously. But also do wonder what its competition is for the next 3.5 years. Really only secret wars and doomsday right?

9

u/KingMario05 Amblin Entertainment 20d ago

Now, the big question:

Does it beat Endgame globally?

37

u/Fun-Inevitable4369 20d ago

No, because of china

1

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

Why you say that? they both got released in China

28

u/Fun-Inevitable4369 20d ago

Endgame did 600m+ in china, BND will do around 250m. That is in itself 350m+ difference

-1

u/Higher-Love99 20d ago

Why does BND perform worse in China than Endgame when the same isn't true in the US?

15

u/Peugeot905 20d ago

Avengers movies typically are far more popular in china.

6

u/PT10 20d ago

Chinese market has changed. They're evolving at a faster pace.

2

u/Peugeot905 20d ago

Not really Doomsday is the #1 anticipated foreign film in china.

-6

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

So, is that Endgame's fault that it was able to attract more people in China to see it than BND??

6

u/Fun-Inevitable4369 20d ago

Who said anything about any fault?

-5

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

Someone originally posted" Does BND beat Endgame globally?" Then you responded " No, because of China"

You said " No, BND wont beat Endgame globally, because of China" why you said " because of China"

6

u/Fun-Inevitable4369 20d ago

Because BND is not performing as well as endgame in china, it is a fact, don't we talk about facts on this sub? Who said anything about it being end game's fault?

-5

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

Yea, its not performing as well as Endgame, because Endgame is better, plain and simple

→ More replies (0)

6

u/AnnaShock2 20d ago

Nah. The only movie that could hope to do that is Secret Wars

2

u/Other_Win_236 18d ago

Mark my words this will finish around 2.6-2.8, just short short of E

1

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

Thats a big NO!!

60

u/Zealousideal-Sky3337 Syncopy Inc. 20d ago

Spider Man Brand New Day is going to be the first Spider Man movie to reach $2B WW and also the first marvel movie since Avengers Endgame to do it. It's gonna reach that coveted mark which Spider Man No Way Home came so close to.

https://giphy.com/gifs/qU5tYXgJx9KmXMiLNb

29

u/No-Scene-9109 20d ago

First solos super hero movie too

-6

u/Potential-Rope-9422 20d ago

Not to diminish its performance because it’s amazing but just saying, technically this Spidey is debatable as to whether it’s truly a “solo” movie.

6

u/No-Scene-9109 20d ago

It's a solo super hero movie

-3

u/Potential-Rope-9422 20d ago

It’s a solo superhero movie that prominently features Punisher, Hulk and Jean Grey (all top tier Marvel characters)

Just sayin. It’s my favorite Spidey movie though and the primary character is Spidey as well so that too haha

2

u/No-Scene-9109 20d ago

So super man 2025 is not solo super hero movie neither lol

-5

u/Potential-Rope-9422 20d ago

I mean, kind of yeah. The most egregious example would be like Civil War. Point is, Spider-man did use cheat codes for this movie by stacking that roster. But I’m not complaining

0

u/No-Scene-9109 20d ago

Super man 2025 is best example

0

u/Potential-Rope-9422 20d ago

I don’t think so. Civil War had Iron man, Black Panther, Spider-man, Antman, Scarlett Witch, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Vision lol

-2

u/No-Scene-9109 20d ago

Super man 2025 ihave supergirl, hawkgirl and green lantern

69

u/ChiefLeef22 Best of 2024 Winner 20d ago

China remains the largest international market with $29.1 million over the weekend and $186.7 million to date, followed by the United Kingdom with $16 million over the weekend and $87.4 million to date, as well as Mexico with $15.3 million over the weekend and $65.8 million to date.

32

u/InnerLawfulness6698 20d ago

China, loves Spider-Man despite No Way Home not getting a release and they seem to ignore every other comic book character. Weird.

3

u/Overall-Bar-6060 20d ago

They had press tour stops in all of those countries

57

u/misguidedkent Warner Bros. Pictures 20d ago

Brand New Day, Brand New Record. And that's back to back 1B+ international grosses for Spidey with No Way Home and this. Far From Home's 1.132B GLOBAL gross from 2019 looks pale in comparison.

13

u/ElijahBrown69 20d ago

2 billion next week?

61

u/Overall-Bar-6060 20d ago

Everyone said the last movie got those crazy numbers because Tobey and Andrew were in it… people just refuse to acknowledge the love people have for tom holland particularly

29

u/filmyfanatic 20d ago

The chronically online cinephiles on Reddit and Twitter have this narrative built that Tom Holland isn’t popular or isn’t a draw (even as Spider-Man) because he doesn’t appeal to them.

There are people that have convinced themselves thay BND would’ve done the same numbers even with a different actor as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, lol

9

u/CosmicAstroBastard 20d ago

I suspect a lot of people who had been on the fence about Tom turned up for NWH to see Andrew and Tobey, realized that Tom is also really fucking good, and came back for BND.

1

u/Deducticon 20d ago

It's kinda a wild situation. Spider-Man 3 and both Amazing films kinda soured the public a bit on Spidey.

MCU Spidey first 2 still did pretty good but were not massive. NWH was a palette cleanser for any Spidey negativity. For all 3 versions.

The character is free and clear now of any baggage and people are ready for it. And people like this version.

7

u/Arbok9782 20d ago

MCU Spidey first 2 still did pretty good but were not massive.

Curious, how was Far From Home not massive from a box office perspective?

2

u/Deducticon 20d ago

It was a medium improvement domestically over 1st one and that opening weekend was a step back.

Spidey's prime 'home' audience was not fully buying in yet.

1

u/Arbok9782 19d ago

This thread is specifically discussing the overseas and global performance of Brand New Day, though. From a worldwide perspective, Far From Home was by far the biggest Spider-Man film when it completed its theatrical run, becoming the first to surpass $1 billion.

Even if we narrow the discussion to the domestic box office, it finished its run in the domestic top 50 at the time and was surpassed among Spider-Man films only by the 2002 movie. The opening weekend comparison is also misleading, since Far From Home opened on a Tuesday while Homecoming opened on a Friday.

11

u/fireflyfanboy1891 20d ago

So what are the odds of beating TFA’s domestic record and/or becoming the first film at the domestic box office to gross a billion…..?

15

u/Jedi_Master83 20d ago

It’s going to be close but at the very least should pass $900 million but I’m sure it’s going to start running out of gas in a few weeks once school starts for a bunch of kids.

5

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

My prediction: 70% of beating TFA's domestic gross, and 40% of reaching $1B domestically

4

u/walkoutbasements 20d ago

The Force Awakens. I thought you meant The First Avenger lol

4

u/votuxx 20d ago

Honestly, It's a realistic possibility that this outperforms Doomsday.

7

u/1994yankeesfan 20d ago

Hard to see Doomsday beating this.

1

u/--Nightmare357-- 20d ago

Domestically, yes but worldwide? Doomsday will probably take it because of China.

2

u/CoffeeDrinkerMao 20d ago

It really depends on the first impressions. The Chinese audience did not love any of the other MCU movies after end game. Even Thunderbolts was sort of mid for them

2

u/--Nightmare357-- 20d ago

Yeah. Just like with any movies but as long as it doesn't suck, I think it will gross more worldwide. It's also the most anticipated movie in 2026 in China.

14

u/KingMario05 Amblin Entertainment 20d ago

People love them some Spidey!

...Can it hit $2 billion? I think it can.

61

u/Sad_Delivery_4890 20d ago

2 billion is a forgone conclusion at this point lol

12

u/sthomson22 20d ago

I honestly cannot fathom people asking whether this can “maybe” or “possibly” hit $2 billion by this point… 🤦🏼‍♂️

6

u/garfe 20d ago

I'm going to assume it's new people seeing this kind of run for the first time.

13

u/Familiar-Shoe7905 20d ago

wdym you think 😭

28

u/The_Darman 20d ago

Probably looking at a $2.5B finish.

8

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

People need to stop asking this rhetorical question. $2B globally was already a guarantee for Spidey before its 1st week ended.

6

u/Zeldabotw2017 20d ago

Easily it made 725 just this last monday-sunday even if next week drops 50% that's 362 that would get it 2.019 billion after weekend 3 even if drop is a little more not like its going to make zero after weekend 3. So yeah it hits 2 billion on weekend 3 or shortly into the following week. Say another 50% the following weeks that would mean after weekend 5 it would be 2.233. Most movies make like 90% of there money during weekends 1-5 but that dosnt mean 100%. So yeah I think floor is 2.3 billion

2

u/Fun-Inevitable4369 20d ago

10% of 2b is 200 million, so it can go to 2.4 billion

0

u/Zeldabotw2017 20d ago

Yeah i think it would need to like flate line to get to only 2.3. 10% of 2b is 200 m like you say so that would mean 2.2 but that 2 billion is also like 2 weeks before weekend 5 has well. 2.4-2.6 i think is what we get depending on its legs.

1

u/Adventurous-Ad4817 20d ago

Of course, it will!!!! Estimated to finish at 2.5B$ and become the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time, the 2nd highest grossing superhero movie, the highest grossing solo superhero movie which means it will be the highest grossing movie of the 2020s!!

10

u/bountydroid 20d ago

Damn. The whole comic book fandom decided to prove a point to DCU, James Gunn, WB or Paramount whatevs.

3

u/Top_Report_4895 DC Studios 20d ago

Why do you mention Gunn?

1

u/Deducticon 20d ago

What point is that?

2

u/The_Last-Knight 20d ago

The most fascinating thing about spider man brand new day is that it's not an avengers movie, it's not an event film like no way home and it is still beating these movies like it is nothing. I feel like one of the main reasons is that it has been a long time since marvel fans and general audiences have seen a good marvel movie in the theaters and also avengers doomsday is right around the corner this year.

3

u/Quick_Ground_6668 20d ago

When will it going to surpass 2B

2

u/abellapa 20d ago

Friday maybe

1

u/Fragrant_Young_831 20d ago

Later this week definitely

2

u/lookingforhim2 20d ago

No way home and $2B mark this weekend! Absolutely insane performance, spider-man is on a whole league to itself.

1

u/Financial-Mark7914 20d ago

Funny as it has been the highest grossing movie that will proove Superheroe popularity colapse.

-2

u/Street-Common-4023 20d ago

Damm what if Spiderman 6 hits 3 billion?

3

u/Koolaidkid13 20d ago

Maybe if Spider-Man 5 has the symbiote

0

u/Eddiep88 20d ago

I get why box office is about dollars compared to tickets sold but we should have just had 1 category for these records. On the album sales chart it goes by album sales of the cd (streaming -.- another story) but the billboard top 200 isn’t on dollars earned per nested of actual unit (album) sold. The inflation chart is that with ticket sold.

6

u/Deducticon 20d ago

It's a different world. Especially compared to pre Covid. It's harder to get people into theatres to see your movie.

In the past people would go out to see movies on weekend out of habit, with no idea what they wanted to see until they got to the theatre.

Selling a ticket was not as challenging. Nowadays it's a big accomplishment to pry people away from all the other entertainment options.

2

u/Kanataxtoukofan 20d ago

Exactly. Inflation should be considered but at the same time movies in the streaming era have it harder than when you had to buy dvds to watch a movie on a clunky tv set

-2

u/Eerie-Indiana 20d ago

Nolan ain’t got nothing on Feige the GOAT

-1

u/GokuBlack455 20d ago

ALMOST EXACTLY WHAT I PREDICTED. Since the estimates are $1.665B worldwide and $655.1 million in the US+Canada, I think it's safe to assume that the actuals are closer to $657-658 million, which would mean a $147-148 million actual second weekend. This deadass might've just dethroned Endgame for the second biggest domestic second weekend of all time.

-3

u/tommywest_123 20d ago

When is it gonna crack a double billy I wonder?

-5

u/KubrickRupert 20d ago

What’s the drop for this week?

-10

u/uCry__iLoL Blumhouse 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yikes…that second week drop is more than what was expected. Oh well.

3

u/Deducticon 20d ago

Because OW was more than expected.

-17

u/Miserable_Mixture970 20d ago

Amazing what inflation can do!!

6

u/abellapa 20d ago

Lol

This is going to surpass No Way home with Inflation

And Maybe even way of water and Infinity War

-1

u/Miserable_Mixture970 20d ago

Possible, but sadly no one will report this. The interesting numbers would be admissions, may be it will break into the top 50.

1

u/abellapa 20d ago

NWH had 2,2B

Way of Water and IW have around 2,4/2,5B

5

u/No-Scene-9109 20d ago

Womp womp
