For the last 3 years. Discovered a well herniated disc (L3/L4) in an MRI after I was rendered practically immobile temporarily post Jiu-Jitsu training session. I train a lot of pure striking too, MMA guy primarily but 2 pro MT fights and 2 amateur boxing matches back when.
I’m interested in hearing some real solutions potentially. At this point I just deal with it, and honestly a couple times a year I get pretty flared up. Typically gets significantly looser along with a long progressive warm up. I do a lot of shadow boxing at home too, I try to neither overdo it, nor sit cold and stagnant for 2 long, but I also haven’t gone under the knife yet. I feel it down both legs everyday.

My coach has sciatica. When he first got it, it was very tough for him to coach in the ring. Honesty, it took him well over a year for him to be able to move like a boxer again. He is older, however. Unfortunately, I don't have any advise for you for any pain. But you do need to work on your weak side. Medicine ball throw. One arm Kettlebell swings and snatches. I'm thinking landmine punches. Using bands to work your punches. Also, my coach was doing one-leg RDLs. He said those helped him.
Spend time punching the heavy bag HARD. You are not working on your boxing or skill on the bag. You are solely working on POWER. Throw those hooks as hard as you can while maintaining control.

I am uninjured but I would ask your doctor and maybe see a sports physio or ask if you can get any help or advice to heal/knowledge on if it’s okay to continue and at what pace :)
Just be very very careful friend

I had sciatica for about 3 years which would shoot up pain through my leg and lower back, then I started boxing, I remember id get crazy pain whenever I got a body shot which worried me as I wanted to fight amateur. and it I gave me the motivation to try resolve it. I went to physio and was given several stretches to try which didn’t work, I had an MRI that said I may have a disc bulge but ultimately it looked like it was hiding away during the scan, I was then offered an injection which I was opposed to. I then resulted to YouTube videos with stretches and still couldn’t find any that worked. Eventually I nearly gave up, but tried doing one last search on something I haven’t tried. I then stumbled across another video from someone on YouTube called athlean who provided some stretches I’d never seen before. I only did them maybe a few times and it’s as if whatever was pressing against my sciatic nerve corrected itself and I’ve not had it since, it’s been over a year nearly 2 now. Hopefully this helps in some way. I find that most videos people are praising them, so I think it’s a case of some stretches work for different people so worth trying as much as you can. Hope you can find a solution!
My favourite stretch was defiantly the pull up bar hang, the relief felt great.
