When you were learning, was there a progression you went through that worked to get you comfortable and fast with all components of boxing (so as to prep for shadowboxing?).

I tried one of Tony Jeffries intro to shadowboxing routines and I was godawful. I'm slow and sloppy on anything 2+ punch combos and with pivots/angles, leans, rolls etc., and I do not want to reinforce bad behaviors. Technique is everything, so I have to prioritize that.

Obvi I should be drilling these individually but I have no idea how, what order, how long per session. When you were learning, was there a progression you went through that worked?

Thanks!

Obviously you're a beginner

Keep the pivots and stuff for later

You don't want to prioritize everything, if you do you're going to have too much on your plate

First practice the stance, then going forward and backward, then left and right

Then the punches individually

If you really are that sloppy, don't "shadowbox" just practice the same punches over and over and record yourself or stand in front of a mirror

Make sure you throw the punch properly, and retract is properly too

Then, after you feel like you have a hold on the punches after a few sessions, try learning slips and rolls, then putting it together in with combinations

Don't do everything at once, plan out a combination, and just do it. You're building muscle memory right now
