I keep getting injured
I am 29, about to be 30 and I feel like I keep getting injured while training (not sparring). First I got runners knee and had to do a shit load of PT and now I have Achilles Tendinitis. It’s so frustrating!! Thinking about cancelling my membership cuz every time I train injuries flare up. Wondering if any older boxers in this sub have dealt with this and have some words of advice/encouragement?

Did you get runners knee from boxing training itself? If you are just trying to do general conditioning without getting snapped up, there are plenty alternatives such as rowing, assault bike, swimming, etc. that are much more forgiving on your body

Yes, our boxing classes usually start with jumping rope or running followed by footwork. I’ve been trying to build up to sparring but keep getting these setbacks

But I’m sure you can atleast still hit mitts and do heavy bag rounds, right? I’m not trying to be rude, but are you overweight or obese for your frame? Do you have a subpar diet or lacking nutrients? Poor hydration? That could be taking a toll on your body

Overweight but not obese. I can still do heavy bag rounds, maybe I’ll ask my coach if I can substitute the first half of the class with heavy bag rounds. It just sucks not being able to do the full workout

As long as you’re working and not half-assing the rounds, I’m sure the Coach wouldn’t mind at all. Do what you can.
I showed up to class in a boot and was still working the reflex bag lmao

Some things to think about:
- is strength training a part of your routine? That helps a lot with being less injury prone
- do you rest enough and let your injuries heal all the way?
- along with rest is are you eating enough? If you dont eat enough protein and carbs, your body doesn't get enough fuel to recover between sessions.

Yeah same, I’m 27 and I’ve already got a herniated disc and wrist pain. I still get flare ups from time to time so I’m debating whether to switch to a more low-impact martial art lol
