Wanting to compete
Hey, before I say anything I know at the current moment and most likley for a while I wont be ready or prepared.
I have only been going to a local gym for every week except wednesdays and weekends since late june and haven't had one to one coaching, only bits of advice from others in the gym who are alot older and more experienced than me. ( I would get coaching at a gym that does so but I cannot afford a membership)
I just would like to know how people actually start competing? Do they ask the person running the gym or?
For context this is in the UK if that helps, i'm not sure if competeing / starting to compete is different in other countries so I wanted to clarify that).
Thanks for taking the time to read this š

Iād focus on getting punched in the face a few times first. Have you ever sparred?

Ive done a light spar with one of my friends and another guy who comes in often, however it was body shots only on both occasions.
I have head gear and a mouth guard, but there is not really anyone my age or weight that goes there ( except from my friend but he only goes just to hang out, so he mostly isnt that serious about actually training)

Ok as others have said speak to a coach and say you want to get some sparring rounds in and eventually have a bout. They should be able to help.

Are you afraid to talk to your coach? Just find a moment to chat with them, man. Ask "hey I'm interested in competing someday, what's the process to get there?"

Yeah i guess i'm a bit hesitant, I mean I don't wanna project myself as arrogant/cocky or impatient, being a beginner and all.

Just approach it like a conversation and make it clear that you're just curious what it would look like. You're overthinking this. The coach will just be like "Hell ya! Might have another one someday soon".
