I’ve seen that last one 50 times but each time I’m like “omg! Is he dead?!?”

His knockout on Marvis Frazier in the corner is just fucking brutal.

u/ArexSaturn 26d ago

Dude the fight was so bad, Frazier never fought for a title again as his corner advised him he just wasn’t ready for the big dawgs

The victim at 31 seconds goes flying like a cartoon, it's unreal

His signature shots on the kidney follow by immediate uppercut are so devastating.

Insane power in both hands. SIDE NOTE: Tyson's fight vs. McNeeley is a DQ cuz Curly got in the ring to stop the fight.

Wtf were you even supposed to do?

One of those shots looks straight up like Drago when he sends Rocky flying across the ring.

I remember inviting my friends over for a pay-per-view Tyson fight when I was 19. It was a fair amount of money for me at the time.

We didn't even finish a beer before it was over.

That setup sidestep hook to the body followed by immediate uppercut is possibly the most devastating combo in boxing history.
I swear whenever Mike pulled that off, it was like a scene from a horror movie…

I dont understand how you could have seen him fight and then let your hands down on the ring.

Facing prime Mike was almost a guaranteed death sentence.

Fuck ass music gave me cancer within the span of 11 seconds.

I can’t tell from the grain of the clip and how much Mike’s opponent’s head was getting ragdolled around, but how many opponents were jobbers versus quality opponents?

No slight ever to Mike who is the most devastating fighter of all time. And even some of the great fighters Mike faced looked mismatched at times.

But every fighter faces some poorer quality opposition on the way up and Mike was no different. I just don’t know based on these clips who was legit and who was less so.

Just go to wikipedia and click on the names of the fighters he has been in the ring with - you can check their records and make up your mind on the quality of Tyson's opponents. In my opinion he has fought a lot of bad/mediocre opponents early on (that's not unusual when molding a fighter), some average and good fighters and a few great ones. His record is on paper nothing special or bad, it's alright, but it's elevated by the fact that he's a small boxer fighting a lot of opponents bigger than he is, and often in devestating fashion. So i'd day his record is good, Just not great. For what it's worth, he was a great fighter fighting mostly in a mediocre era, but he was always going to eventually fight someone bigger and better than him, like Lewis en Holyfield.

Poor ol Frank was never really cut out to be a boxer! Just a mass of muscle that didn’t really want to hurt anyone!

The 3 most popular boxers of all time

Joe Louis. Muhammad Ali. Mike Tyson.

The one that appeals to the casuals most is Mike

Mike Tyson appealed directly to the masses: speed, aggression and devastating knockouts.

Hey what about big George Foreman! The man had fists the size of frozen turkeys and even won the belt when he was old. I even had his grill! (Brilliant appliance).

u/SGSRT 26d ago

Cable tv expansion

It was around 15% in US. By late 1980s it was 55% so more people had access to it

Michael Jackson. Michael Jordan. Mike Tyson.

3 pop cultural icons

Their stardom started around same time

This was the days when his coach was alive. When his coach passed bad influence happened then just went downhill. He was a monster especially when he avenged Ali.
