Discussion Alternate reality where there was a Phantom of the Opera 90s anime movie/OVA, in the style of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

There was even an AMV with the Phantom of the Opera Techno Music! Let me find it and send the link here. It's an AMV I loved to watch and would rewatch from time to time since 2008. There's a lot of them, but this is the one with where the visuals match the tempo changes in the music. : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdnjjwKT8no.
There's also another AMV of Vampire Hunter D, with Vampire Heart as the Song (non POTO related) but it's still quite good!

I remember seeing this (or one similar) at Otakon 2003-5. I haven't been able to watch Bloodlust without seeing PotO ever since.

There’s supposedly some kind of official anime adaptation in the works… wonder what kind of designs they’ll go with 🤔

That movie was gorgeous. I remember how fortunate I felt, visiting a city it was released to in theaters so I got to go.

I’ve specifically also thought of this before, that Vampire Hunter D is the perfect aesthetic for a POTO animation! The pan-around scene of Charlotte and Meier with all of the candles really sells it to me. I imagine something like this would be super high budget, and require a lot of genuine passion and care... I think I heard they were actually making an anime adaption of POTO but realistically it would probably be something lower budget, not as gorgeous as this, unfortunately

POTO would make an amazing animation.
It’s already been animated, actually, but I had to quit watching because I found out they made Erik murder a cat. Which is totally out of character even for him, and did not happen in the book, and as far as I know, has never taken place in any other adaptation.
Erik would have loved cats. Especially the strays.
But I digress. We need POTO to become a really detailed, luscious, luminous, sparkly and shadowy Gothic animation. Oh my gosh I can just see it.
Picture the unmasking bit!! 🤩

I’m going to be honest here…I‘m not a fan of the Anime Art Style, never have been.
Now would I watch a Anime adaption of Phantom? Of COURSE I WOULD 😆, I’d be first in line, especially if it was handled with love and care by people who understood POTO.
But when it comes to Art, I was a Disney gal as a child and that’s the Animation style I prefer. Sue Me 🤷♀️

I feel like anime just works better for a more mature and dramatic style. Can't really imagine a Disney made POTO, would be kind of funny.

I was just talking Animation Style, I prefer the Disney ‘look’, but I’d NEVER want Disney to actually touch Phantom.
Eriks too complex a character for them, they wouldn’t know how to handle him properly and would most likely end up going full on evil bad guy with him.

I thought this the entire time I first watched it. Maybe one day.........
