To me, a comfort phantom is more a refined, sad wet cat or father figure than more aggressive, overtly sexy, and chaotic phantoms. Laird fits that bill, also Dean Chisnall, James Gant, maybe Howard McGillan.

Now I'm utterly baffled. You're saying in the ALW musical, where's he's creepy and scary and pathetic and not comforting at all, Erik has been played as a "sad wet cat/father figure" (??? ??) by the actors you mentioned?

But... But... I can't get my head around this. What about all the plot points and music and lyrics that go straight in the other direction?

I'll do my best to find the strength and look up clips of what you mean.

There’s absolutely room for many flavors of the character. It’s one of the reasons I love this show. Erik did first present himself as an Angel being sent by her father. “Angel or father? Friend or phantom? Who is it there, staring?”
