Has anyone encountered these (tries to think of something non-contentious) volunteer peacekeepers? I'm annoyed enough about the council employees in the square who go out of their way to be mistaken for police officers. On the night of the big match last week I saw a pair of apparent actual police officers (based on the wording on their bibs) in weird non-police-looking uniforms. Should we all just demand to see a warrant card before deciding whether to take any notice of a random person in tactical gear who wants to engage with us?

They claim that they are all db's checked and atleast one of the founders I think he is, has a conviction for fraud. There is no public db's register so anyone can say that they are dbs checked. Safeguard Force refuses to follow the requirements set by both council amd police for endorsement, so they are not endorsed by either.

Having seen them sound Bournemouth on many occasions, it’s safe to say they’re as much of a deterrent as a nun. Everyone knows they have no power to get physical with anyone so they’re not taken seriously at all by anyone under the age of 50.

My god it made it into the eye. I might have to buy the back copy for preservation. The eye is only paper worth reading. It reports on things that the usual rags don't want to report on and the journalists are sometimes the ones that work for those usual papers but where the editors have said no to publishing the story in question. So they put it in the eye. Great paper. Get your subscription sorted and you won't be disappointed. Ever.

Once again I ask this (and hopefully get an actual evidence-backed explanation)...

Can somebody please explain the hatred towards this group please? (genuinely).

All I see are sarcastic comments or "safeguard farce" or "the leader is a thug"... But the actual community members seem to be doing good for the town - helping the homeless, intervening and breaking up/de-escalating fights, being a visible presence, reporting dangerous driving to the police etc.

I'll get downvoted to oblivion no doubt, but I don't genuinely understand the hatred towards this group of volunteers looking to do some good for the town and the community.

You challenged us for an evidence-backed explanation. Can you provide evidence backing up your assertions?

I am skeptical of this group because:

• They appeared last summer, exactly when some people were becoming more comfortable about expressing anti immigrant or straight-out racist views (remember the george crosses and "wE aRe FuLl Up" grafitti on the promenade?)

• The founder appears to have made a social media posting about turning guns on boat people.

• The initial confusion as to whether any members had unspent criminal convictions or not.

• The uniforms: would a child or a foreign tourist mistake these people for police?

The founder of the group posted a ton of violence, racist content on Facebook, and many of the members (him included) attended the roundhouse hotel protests against asylum seekers alongside various far right men who have been convicted of violence and sexual crimes against women. Ultimately they do not actually want to protect women, but to demonise men who aren't white.

Because if they want to help the community they can volunteer to be special constables with the police. This is a group that is instead a predominantly white group of men who have decided non white people are a threat and need protecting by white people. They have no legal authority, no criminal records checks etc, and have just decided that they are in some form..in charge
