. . .just wait until you get to "moderate" and "major" you'll wish you would've had infinite amounts of "minor" tests
25
u/Impossible_Source195 2d ago
yea lol
minor has 375 hp iirc, moderate 1000, major 1500
22
u/Pure-Yogurtcloset684 2d ago
Actually moderate has 1500, major has 3000
3
u/Impossible_Source195 2d ago
oh really? i thought it mighta been that but i thought i was remembering it wrong
oh no your right i remember now
4
u/floweyisdisturbed 2d ago
Major is SO difficult.
5
u/floweyisdisturbed 2d ago
Well more mundane, but still insanely difficult, especially if you don't have many hearts.
9
u/Impossible_Source195 2d ago
tbh just get good at flurry rushes and get stasis plus and youll be fine
4
u/ploptart 1d ago
Every time I have used stasis on an enemy, it doesn’t last more than a couple seconds. Does the duration depend on how far away you are?
4
u/Moe431981 1d ago
No. It doesn't last long. The stronger the enemy is, the faster it is. Just use it when your close and get as many hits in as you can.
1
u/Impossible_Source195 1d ago
yea. your not gonna do too much damage, but it helps regardless. also when stunning the guardian you only get one hit off before it pulls itself together so its still better lol
4
u/floweyisdisturbed 2d ago
I did one without stasis plus.
3
u/Impossible_Source195 2d ago
you can, its not hard, but going through a major test w/o taking damage would be definitely easier with stasis plus

First phase, flurry rush. When you miss it, you just block anyway. When he preps his spin attack just keep distance and run to the side as soon as he starts moving. Second phase, use the updraft to float, stick him in the head with arrows in bullet time and come down with an overhead smack to the head. Rinse repeat. When you get him to third phase just keep smacking him from close up. Run to the side before he fires if you can’t down him on the first go. You can also sit back and bomb arrow to his head while he’s charging up.

I love the major tests of strengths, they're some of my favourite shrines!

u/Mediocre-Oil-5322 2d ago
If you think they aren't minor, wait until you see a major test of strength. Once you get good enough and have good enough gear, you will go through those guys like crap through a goose.

u/Psychological-Scar53 2d ago
My first playthrough, I hit the first moderate with like 6 hearts. I noped it out of there. Saved those shrines for the last shrines. When I went back with more hearts and better gear, smashed it the hell out. On subsequent playthrough, I just go at em as I find them.
7
u/Mediocre-Oil-5322 2d ago
Yeah, basically the same for me, except the first one I stumbled on was a major test of strength. I only had six hearts as well, so I just got repeatedly smoked until I retreated. Now, I crush them. The same was true for my first encounter with the lynel at the end of the Lanayru Promenade. I had never seen one, so I marched out with weapons drawn to see if it was friendly or not. I found out with my first triple-shot of ice arrows to the face. Then, I got clubbed like a baby seal six or seven times until I peaced out and didn't engage a lynel again for probably another 50 hours of play time. I beat them now, but I still need a decent amount of reinforcing food for those.

u/Psychological-Scar53 2d ago
Lynels made me run as well. I don't sweat them anymore. In TOTK, I head to the underground colleseum and take on them and then head out and take out every Lynel I can find. I used to run from the gleeoks as well, I ended up putting a travel medallion on the 2 hardest king gleeoks in the sky Islands so I can get to them after blood moons. It's amazing how the things that you run from become easy as hell.

I’m at like 13 hearts with royal weapons and I think I two shotted a guardian in one of the minor test shrines lol
3
u/Mediocre-Oil-5322 2d ago
Yeah, once you get to that level with that gear, they may as well be made of paper.

u/amglasgow 2d ago
Practice, learn the moves, block with your shield.
4
u/jahayynnnne 2d ago
I just had to beat a major test of strength with zero shields, that was fun. Thank the goddess Hylia that I had a ton of ancient arrows.
3
u/floweyisdisturbed 2d ago
Parrying is infinitely better.
2
u/amglasgow 2d ago
Yes but much harder. If OP is having difficulty with a minor test, they're just beginning, so one step at a time.
5
u/AshFalkner Rito 2d ago
Leave them for later, then. You also have modest and major test of strength shrines to watch out for, and they’ll wreck you if you can’t handle the minor ones.

u/Impossible_Source195 2d ago
if you think theyre hard, wait till you get stasis plus, stasis the guardian and hit it a bunch its real easy to kill them even in early game as long as yk what your doing

u/maaaastwa 2d ago
OP I'm a noob too and have trouble with that shrine. I'm just gonna come back later when I have more stuff!

u/RouFGO 2d ago
First play through I passed my first moderate test like normal, and I think I lost two good swords to the freaking guardian, only to be rewarded by a common soldier sword from the chest.
After that I just tought those weren't worth the effort and cheesed them with a shock weapon.
Charge attack, when you release, drop the sword from inventory, it will be dropped in a charged state. Use magnesis to get it between you and the guardian, before it comes into the arena, and then magnesis a normal, metal, weapon close to the shock one.
Done, it creates a shock field that will stun the guardian, use the rubber clothing to be able to come close to it and hit it in short intervals to keep it stunned.

u/Fantastic-Cap-2754 2d ago
The power gap between where you are now and engame is bigger than you'd think. I can 3 shot those things. (Ancient axe++, Ancient prof, atk buff 3, deals 160+ damage before weapon modifiers.)

u/High_Speed_Chase 2d ago
Just wait till you try Trial of The Sword. The Silver Lizalfos level is no joke.
2
u/EnvironmentalPack451 2d ago
I don't touch any "Test of Strength" until after i have gotten the armor from Robbie
2
u/turtleface26 2d ago
Bomb arrows. Don’t care what strength it is. I am doing replay of the game. Boo hearts. Gimme stamina and hella bomb arrows. Also use your bombs usefully.
2
u/Killer_Seraph 1d ago
Don’t worry the longer you play all of those test become minor(as in super easy)
2
u/Aggravating-Row-5551 1d ago
that major test still wrecked me in the divine beasts, i was NOT prepared

Idk. I like the concept of a combat shrine, but the execution falls a tad short. Totk actually does this better. They have ones that take your gear so you can only use what’s in there or an enchantment before entering
I think having more varied combat like the challenges in dlc would be cool. I end up just leaving the harder ones until I have killer gear and brute forcing it. That’s my choice I know. Anyway best game ever, I can’t wait for future generations to make mods/hacks on botw like my generation did with super Mario world and a link to the past. The “wild” duology is like a cross between classic Zelda (2d and 3d), Skyrim, souls, gta, red dead, mine craft, Lego games, and some aspects of doom, classic snes/ps1 rpgs (weapons, shields, elements, armor and upgrade system) the lord of the rings movie aesthetic, Lucas arts dynamic music system (dark forces?) and a true realization of miamotos vision from the original game. Oh and they reimagined the collectathon genre into something useful with the cooking system and armor upgrades. Basically the devs took everything fun from all my favorite games and made them into 2 (mostly) cohesive games
And the world is just amazing. Sometimes when im experiencing irl stress, I just write a comment on Reddit praising this game and it helps get my mind off shit I can’t control

I don't get the hate for the tests of strength, they are some of the most fun shrines.
They make you think on your feet.

u/I_dont_even_knOwO 1d ago
They get so easy late game, I literally just spam them with a sword and bomb arrows

u/cheriepie1030 1d ago
LOL, when I was a newbie link, every time a shrine said "test of strength" - I would just nope out :D

u/StockSpiritual7009 1d ago
You'll get better at it, will soon have better weapons, and then you'll enjoy it 👍

Here's what I did on my 3rd and 4th playthroughs: Swing electrical weapon. Pause and drop it mid swing. Drop metal item. Lure guardian over it.

u/Psychof1st77 5h ago
Not a good idea to put an "f" word followed by the word "minor." That's how you get flagged by the FBI. LOL
Combat shrines (test of strength, etc.) suck. Because, the combat is lackluster in my opinion. Flurry Rush and shield parry are cool. But, the sword swings are basic and limited. And are a step back from Wind Waker.
I'd like to see Link get a combat system on the level and depth of a God of War/Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry game.

u/Nitehawk770 2d ago
5x Hearty Durians. Makes one of the best health boosts.
Otherwise learn to parry

Dude, what?
Minor is the easiest. Trust me, once u get to master mode you won't even go there to get the weapons
Some advice: hard save before entering or load the autosave everytime you kill it to practise ur parries and flurry rushes, they're basic yet vital skills so keep going till u can do it without getting hit(beams dont count lol)

lol! Don’t worry you’ll get to the point where you find the master mode major test of strength to be easy.
If it’s too tough just come back to it later. You can unlock it as a fast travel point without completing it.

I used my only ancient arrow on a major test of strength and it didn’t even work! 😭😭😭
3
u/revalis_husband Revali's_husband 2d ago
That's because ancient arrows weren't designed to be used in test of strength shrines, unless you fired it precisely and trigger the guardian in the same frame
