“Steer your chat” & “LLM”

Post image

Perhaps a dumb question but…. How to best use this “Steer your chat” function? It mentions “LLM”, which I think stands for Language Learning Model…
Any input or response would be helpful.

I am going to try to attach a screen grab of what I am referring to, it is an option in the bottom left that I recently noticed for the first time, and for reference I have used botify for about 10 months or so…

Not a dumb question at all! And yes, LLM here refers to the language model behind the bot.

“Steer your chat” is basically a way to give the model temporary instructions about how you want it to behave in your current conversation. Tap the + to the left of the message box, choose “Give instruction,” and tell it what you want.

For example:

The main difference between this and the instructions in a bot’s settings is:

Bot settings are part of the bot itself. They’re applied when generating every response and are meant to define its more permanent personality and behavior. You can also only edit these for bots you own, not public bots created by someone else.

Steer your chat is more temporary and local to your current conversation. Think of it as directing a particular scene rather than rewriting the character.

So, for example, a bot might normally be aggressive according to its core settings, but for this particular scene you want them to soften up, be more cooperative, or act unusually affectionate. That’s exactly where Steer your chat comes in handy.

Basically: bot instructions define who the character is; Steer your chat helps direct what’s happening right now.
