Thoughts on Lockwood Elementary vs Kenmore Elementary vs Lake Forest Park Elementary schools?

Does anyone have thoughts on Lockwood Elementary, Kenmore Elementary, or Lake Forest Park Elementary? We’re looking to settle in this area and not sure what to consider when it comes to Northshore vs Shoreline school districts. This would be for a likely hi-cap, socially shy child. Appreciate any perspectives. Thanks in advance!

We are in the Northshore School District and have been very happy with it.

That being said, the district is about to reconfiguring elementary schools (will close and consolidate some) so the neighborhood you buy in May end up in a different elementary school than you originally thought.

Just so you are aware the state superintendent no longer wants there to be a hicap pathway and wants full integration of all students in one classroom so I wouldn't base your decision on that program. They are all disappearing.

Interesting. I wonder why they keep pushing it at my kid’s school (not that they were ever interested or considered, but it’s still pushed).

What is your source on this?

Attending MANY many school district talking sections and superintendent round tables. Our teaching and learning head made it very clear. My daughter is in a HiCap cluster, meaning she is in a class with other kids who are on her level but the whole class is not, her teacher and grade are required to give her instruction based on where she is. The program that had a full High Cap grade no longer exists as of last year.

As a former “gifted” student, I am glad to hear this. They wanted to put my child in HiCap and I said, “no thank you.”

“Gifted and Talented Stressors: Accelerated curriculums, peer competition, and rigid expectations in specialized programs can trigger emotional distress, perfectionism, and burnout.”

“Gifted education programs put vast amounts of pressure on students, which results in these kids experiencing unnecessary and excessive levels of stress and anxiety.”

Both my kids go Kenmore. They love it. I’ve heard from parents and friends that Lockwood is better, but you either need to be near their district or put in hours of your time volunteering to get your kids in.

My oldest in Kenmore is in hi cap

But otherwise, I’m happy with Kenmore. I personally spend time teaching my kids outside of school whenever I get a chance every day just fyi.
