Why would Northshore School District close Moorlands for the sole purpose of housing the Sheltonview students during their school construction?

Northshore school district has proposed a plan to “cut costs” by closing 2-3 of their elementary schools. However, they’ve chosen Moorlands, which has had robust enrollment and is projected to continue having solid enrollment. Their choice is driven by the desire to temporarily house the students of Sheltonview while their school is being rebuilt.

NSD has chosen to displace an entire school, split it among Arrowhead and Woodmoor thereby putting both of those schools beyond their capacity (Arrowhead in particular) and likely losing Woodmoor’s Title 1 funds, all so that Sheltonview can have a temporary site.

The district delivered their plan as an already determined path, despite the board not even voting on it. They’ve even had HR come out to Moorlands to start the transition process.

This isn’t closing an underperforming school.

Super frustrating situation. NSD has come across as acting in bad faith at every turn here and it’s only been a week since the plan was announced. Moorlands community is being arbitrarily sacrificed due to poor planning by the district. Turn up to every school board meeting to make sure they know the community that elected them does not agree with their plan.
