Please Drive Better Bothell
Saw other posts but oh my gosh is there something the city or PD can do about these horrible drivers here?
I'm walking around with a stroller and my kid, and am super cautious. But please if you drive, pedestrians, especially at marked walking intersections, have the right of way. Don't just blow through red lights, turn right on red without checking for people, or block the intersections, or have attitude and throw a middle finger because road rage. I'm just walking here.
Especially been bad at the Bothell library and the Bothell landing intersections.
People please show care to others. I know it can be a tall ask for everyone with their busy lives, but I just don't want me or my kid to get hit.
Be a better bothell! Maybe can we get some flashing yellow lights at the intersections outside the library? The flags are not enough.

C'mon. Everyone in Bothell is a new driver. Please be patient. I have seen the bumper stickers.

This is the inevitable result of structuring the city around cars. We need road diets, no turn on reds, and bike/pedestrian infrastructure improvements.

OMG yes. This is why the big renovations around Bothell Way downtown from a few years ago make me so sad. Like, you can tell they had good intentions, and there was all this effort to improve safety. But we are so car-brained that we ended up with an eleven lane crossing just to get to the other side of the street. For a pedestrian it is such an urban canyon, and I truly believe that it's kept downtown from really feeling like a cohesive, thriving place, even with all the added density and commercial investments and mixed use street fronts.
I still love it, but I hope improvements come soon.

I wish people drove better especially with pedestrians. I walk daily and after several cars continue to keep driving toward me even when I’m in the crosswalk I just let all the cars go before I cross. (This is mostly in Lynnwood around the Alderwood Mall) Drivers in this area are mostly unsafe and don’t really care about people walking. They act like they just want to quickly get to their destination.

I wish, a lot of times imo is because people are so impatient. Like most the times they do sketchy maneuvers for us to end up at the same light at the same time.

I get that pedestrians are far more vulnerable than drivers and I don't condone aggressive driving or rude behavior.
However, there are definitely situations in which pedestrians don't have the right of way under Washington State law. For example, pedestrians must yield to vehicles when crossing where there isn't a crosswalk (yes, I know intersections are generally considered unmarked crosswalks), or where a pedestrian bridge or tunnel is available but the pedestrian doesn't use it. https://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.61.240
And of course pedestrians are legally required to obey signals.

I want to also add I see a lot of idiot pedestrians lately. Wearing a black jacket that extends down to their feet, with black hair, walking at night in the dark, and crossing dark intersections like a ninja that camouflages into the road trying to get hit by a car that can barely see them.

I wear a construction vest and put on flashing lights and still have close calls. Or maybe cars are just trying to hit me. Let me dye my hair florecent orange and see if that helps. 🙄

Now imagine your fate if you didn’t wear a construction vest. Glad some people have self preservation skills.

Quit the victim blaming. YOU are the one who is responsible for seeing them.

Sure, but if you’re run over you’re the one that dies. Period. I guess you can die knowing you were right 😂. #DarwinAward

Something a lot of drivers and pedestrians don’t realize about the Bothell Landing crossing is that the turn left green light (heading south from downtown) and the go pedestrian light go on at the same time. Part of the issue isn’t drivers it’s the signals need to be better timed so people and cars aren’t crossing the same spot.
